Here’s Why The FFXV Party Members Are Clothed In Black

If you played the Episode Duscae demo or you've at least seen some of the trailers, you know the main characters in Final Fantasy XV wear black.

But why? Well, game director Hajime Tabata explains the dark design embraced by your party members. As it turns out, in this particular fictional universe, black is a "special color."

Tabata addressed the subject in the game's Japanese forums (as translated by Nova Crystallis ). He first said the four main characters sport the "official battle gear of the Kingdom of Lucis" and each party member wears "the specific battle dress relevant to their individual stations."

But beyond that, black does hold a certain significance in FFXV's lore:

"In the Kingdom of Lucis where our heroes reside, the color black has historically been treated as a special color. Because of this, the attire of the royal family and those in occupations closely tied to them are unified by having black as a base coloring. This part of the lore is the reason why the outfits of all four main characters are black. For the finished game we also intend on having their clothing having effects in battle and not just being a part of the world and its background. So watch out for that too!"

Final Fantasy XV is supposed to finally release some time next year, and definitely before 2017. Expect to hear the finalized date in March 2016 .

I liked the original outfits from vs13 to be honest.

I hope they have alternate costumes that would make me happy.

Still pretty excited to see how this game turns out, fingers are crossed.

Maybe it's to signify the funeral for the FF series. I've never gotten into it but from what I hear from people in this community, the FF people loved died long ago.

Or maybe it's just a cool squad color.

Yeah, great, now how about telling us how this game is going to work. You know like the battle system which was odd in Duscae. And why should we risk a buy on this open world westernized action fantasy here at the worst possible downturn for Final Fantasy?

LOL… their uniforms are meant to be stylish emo jackets? What about the guy with a bare chest?

That's the worst excuse for bland character creation I've ever heard.
