Don’t Be Surprised To See Corporate Mudslinging At E3

Things could get nasty at E3 this year, so be prepared.

Not only do you have to two giant manufacturers pushing brand new consoles, you also have an incendiary situation due to the recent Xbox One announcement debacle. Microsoft is very much in the doghouse right now.

Many industry insiders are saying MS is aggressively pursuing damage control and as a result, they put a crimp in Sony's well-laid E3 plans. However, although Sony is not typically the instigator, I wouldn't be surprised to see a certain Sony head honcho take a well-aimed potshot or two at the Xbox One. For instance, I can just picture SCEA president Jack Tretton taking the stage and saying at one point: "And now, to show you all our new gaming machine , here's the PS4." Obviously, to poke fun at the Xbox One for being called everything but a video game console. Multimedia box? Sure. Australia even said it qualified as a surveillance device.

The point is that there could be some serious snarking going on during the course of the week. It's awfully entertaining but I certainly hope that Sony steers clear of most of it. They should be aware of the obvious- Microsoft bungled things so badly that Sony really just needs to show off their games, give out a reasonable date and price for the PS4, take a bow, and let the gamers decide. Microsoft can throw around all the money they want, they can hedge their bets and even try to retract things they said. In the end, it's very likely that everyone will still have a bad taste in their mouths where the Xbox One is concerned. And MS deserves it, as far as I'm concerned. They dug their own grave, so man up and deal with it.

It's still all sorts of fun from the onlooker's standpoint, though.

What I love about the conference is that Sony is going after Microsoft.

I fully expect Sony to have the last laugh here, although I am remotely concerned over this whole DRM mess.

As long as Somy brings on the games that's all it needs.

It's crazy how I remember sitting down with my phone ready waiting for the Microsoft Conference to start. I was thinking to myself "Holy shit this is going to get interesting". As the conference came to an end I was like "You have to be joking right?" You guys had a couple of months to prepare and completely blow off Sony and you come up with this VHS TV Box? WTF And now this? Can it possibly get worse? Oh wait e3 is here, so yes it can.

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea give away some food at their presentation. Might ease some hungry journalists ready to write incendiary articles. 🙂

Easy solution for Sony, Re-hire Kevin Butler as head mud-slinger.

I don't think Sony needs to say anything except:
"Proceed Governor."

It's a joke about the 2nd presidential debate where Mitt Romney was about to claim something utterly untrue, he paused to address the President's having shaken his head mid-comment, the President's reply: "Proceed Governor". Romney did proceed and continued to dig himself into trouble that became a live embarrassment.

I think MS will be the only ones slinging mud, because they seem to be the only ones wallowing in it.

Sony probably understands that MS is doing more harm to themselves than Sony ever could. Silence on the issue would most likely work in Sony's favor, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings if they took a jab or two at MS.

Sony has a whole lot to gain if they, despite all of the idiocy going on in the MS camp, show some grace. A little jab or two to acknowledge the craziness would be one thing, but Sony stands to capture some serious hearts-and-minds if they remain focused on their presentation. Hitting a homerun at E3 will do more than just sling a little mud – it'll be a landslide befalling MS.

isent there always?
hell $onys already started it by teasing the name of the new xbox, and also its looks.
E3 is always a cock waving event, and thats exactly why its so boring at times.
people watch E3 to see amazing games, not so suits can flop it out and wave it around while there saying we have sold x number of systems, have x number of active accounts, ect, ect.
heres a tip suits, your E3 audience IS NOT there for you to run a stockbroking conference!
in short people who attend E3 could not give a flying %$#@@^#%$^%*%($&^%$%^@&$(%&#^%$%^&%(#& how many systems have been sold, how many active accounts have been registered, ect, ect, ect.
save the stockbroking information, for you know, people who actually give a sh*t about that information!

The only info a good stockbroker should want from a company is the price per share and dividend payout.

Never get your info from the people who want you to buy more of their stock.

Also, I love me a good cock waiving.

Erm…. wut? 0.o

Why do I get the bad feeling if Sony pokes at MS and MS is nabbing exclusives with their overflowing coffer…. does not bode well for Sony.

Whatever they have, they need to focus on the games and game dev. AND the social/casual side of the console can be touched on, be it TV, movies and games… along with sharing and posting, etc. and the ability of the PS4 to make popcorn or whatever people want it to do.

Being the better party in this possible slap and tickle might be the best and noble way for Sony to approach E3…. but would it be better if Sony threw out money to buy exclusives? I thought people said that was going the way of the dodo? Maybe they were wrong.

Keep Playing! and lets see.

MS only seems willing to toss their money around at the beginning of a gen, we saw how 360 games just died out over time, I think that'll happen again.

Lately they've been spending that money trying to convince people Kinect isn't a steaming turd.
