Gamescom 2014: Destiny Pre-Orders Soar, DLC Announced

Destiny isn't even out yet and it's already breaking records.

As revealed during Sony's Gamescom press conference, Bungie's upcoming blockbuster is now the most pre-ordered new IP in GameStop's history.

Of course, that eliminates a lot of huge sequels, like ones in the Call of Duty franchise, but it's a significant accomplishment nonetheless. Said GameStop senior vice president of merchandising Bob Puzon:

"With the launch of Activision's Destiny just around the corner, our GameStop associates are working diligently to prepare for what is currently our highest pre-ordered new IP in history. Based on the consumer excitement we are encountering in our stores every day, Destiny is on track to deliver a tremendous gaming experience."

Bungie also took the opportunity to show off a brand new trailer, and shared some fresh details regarding the PlayStation-exclusive content. The Exodus Blue map will be a timed exclusive for PS3 and PS4 players, for instance. Lastly, they announced that the game's first expansion pack, The Dark Below, will launch across all platforms in December.

Yeah, September 9 can't get here fast enough, right?

I was just thinking during the Sony Conference, that the Destiny Beta was played by 4.6 million people.

4.6 MILLION!!!!
Let's assume that every one of those people buy the game day 1 (won't happen), that means 4.6 million sales on day one. Some games don't sell that much in their entire lifetimes!

Either way, 4.6. million people have played the game, with the vast majority giving positive feedback, and the game hasn't even been released yet. With Playstation consoles leading the charge by a lot.

I think this is just further evidence that Destiny COULD be the next big thing in gaming. It also stands to prove that the hype is worth it, something that doesn't seem to happen much these days.

Honestly you have to remember while Bungie began handing codes out like crazy and then it went open on the last 2 days many people interested never played it. Many didn't even realise the Beta went open to begin with then there were all the issues with DLing. The DL issues plagued the East Coast and EU IK many people who simply couldn't put up with the way they handled the DL and simply gave up, there was no background DLing.
It took me over 8hrs and some of my PS friends tried doing it overnight while they slept woke up and it still wasn't close to being done so said screw it.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if it sold 4.6mil in the first week.
The first Black OPs sold nearly 9mil in its first month and I wouldn't be surprised at all if Destiny Surpasses that.

LOL that hurt my side that was so funny. But there are plenty of accessories to play house with and one of Destiny's biggest draw is it's RPG element.

Still funny though.
