The fighting world is all in a tizzy over these two hybrid crossovers; Namco Bandai and Capcom's separate attempts at bringing the Street Fighter and Tekken worlds together.
As we learned last week , the two developers are working on two separate games: one is Street Fighter X Tekken and will have the 2.5D perspective found in SFIV, and the other is Tekken X Street Fighter , which will boast the full 3D perspective in the Tekken titles. But when are they coming? Well, not for a while. According to what SFIV producer Yoshinori Ono told Famitsu (via Andriasang ), Capcom will be the first to deliver their version but even that is two years off. He also told us that Namco's effort, helped along by veteran franchise producer Katsuhiro Harada, is being developed entirely separately…with no apparent sharing of information going on. Is this a competitive thing…? Well, anyway, here's some gameplay taken from Comic-Con 2010:
I always forget how much people love their fighters. The fans seem plenty happy with this, don't they? Anyway, Ono says not to expect the next major announcement for their title until Capcom's Captivate event next April. Between now and then, maybe we can just drool over this again and again… Oh, and be sure to check out the new screenshots through the link above. They're tasty.
One of the most dishearting things in the gaming industry i have ever seen. Goodbye Tekken.
these are the best fighting games ever. you might be the only person that's against this.
They are, no question about it. It's just a same to see them be degraded like this. I can't really be bothered to go into another rant on why, but it's a shame.
I did not know however it is going to take 2 years…Judging by that it looks like we wont get a Tekken 7 on the PS3, which is just ridiculous. though i guess it doesnt really matter as the presence of Tekken has fallen since T4 and now that it's hit rock bottom to be slapped about by other franchises like comic book characters i give up on it.
Coming from the guy thats holding up FF13 with a smile and a thumbs up?
Marty did you read the last article and decide to steal the other guys snidy comment, i am not going to reply propaly to that, just go read the comment i made on the last article…
I'm really interested in why are u against this??? it will be the same as Tekken but with extra characters, I don't see any harm in that. and best of all it's the same guy who made the first three I believe. So it will be good

I'm not going to hunt down your stuff and no this is the only thing I've read on the site today
I'm with TEG3HS. Why the negativity? It's just like any other Tekken game, but with Street Fighter characters (or vice versa). If you like Tekken, how is that bad? And if you like BOTH then you should be stoked!

I just do not like my media to be mashed like dog meat. taking characters from series and plopping them together just does not work. It's a phase which was popular in comics and now due to the rise in popularity or comics is infecting other media such as games and films.
I am against it because i believe it to be a lack of respect to the the series they have built over a decade. These characters should not be mixed, i would say at first due to realism, but in the last few titles Tekken has just gotten silly (Azael anyone?) but from Tekken 1-3 the series had a strong presence and story which i adored. This to me is the notification that the series has just forgotten any signs of it's routes and just followed the local fads, which is sad.
I have nothing against the two series, infact i believe them to be the 2 best fighters there are,(If it were Tekken and Virtua Fighter i'd be tearing my hair out.) but i do not like to see them downgraded and slopped together.
The reason i have ignored Comic stories is due to how incoherant they are. i don't bother with stories, films, games if they are not official, they just become irrelevant to me. If you want an example just look at Alien VS Predator. okay thats an example of a poorly constructed film. take the Spiderman trilogy, i actually enjoyed them. but as we know they are not making a 4th becuase Rami and Maguire arent involved, so what do we get, a reboot. yeah lets just completely ignore the whole work and start again, it's just depressing to see it happen. I don't even mind long lost sequels, but reboots are just insulting. It's the lack of respect to the source material which gets me angry.

what I think is both games will be brilliant, they brought the same guy who made Tekken 1-3 and asked him to do T X SF . so this version will be more about story, close combat and juggling. also the same guys who worked on Sf4 are doing SF X Tekken so it will be more arcady like.
You have a valid point. Never been a fan of Comics, but from what I gather the avenger was one of the best comics out there. feel free to correct me as I'm not a Comic Kinda fan.
As a young Douche, I always dreamt about MK Vs SF but i'll be more than happy with this. the only thing that could make me happier is a new DOA
I aprove of that, but even so having a story intermixed woth Street Fighter characters is wrong. because after this they will have nothing to do with each other anymore, there is no way to back this up with a plausible story. It's clear that they just wanted to have the 2 series fight each other. If this disrespect was not effecting the media at a mass rate i may have been cool with it, alas is not the case. but i feel i have said my piece on the matter, hopefully we can all at least hope it is entertaining, which is probable.
apparently we will have to take the wait and see approach aren't we :). but if u bought any of these games, i'll hunt u down 🙂
I know u live in UK for starters 🙂
Yikes. Okay, Sam Raimi's filmed version of Spider-Man is not the source material. It's a filmed reinterpretation of comic book stories written in 1963 by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, and he didn't really stick to the source material either. Mary Jane was not Peter's first love, that was Gwen Stacy; and his web shooters were guns, not a side effect of the spider-bite. I could go on for hours about all the changes Raimi made to Spider-Man to make it work for him in the films, but I'll save the nerd rant for another time.
The source material for both the films you mentioned are comic books, and neither series of films did the source material justice.
The reason we're getting a reboot instead of a sequel is not just because of Raimi and Tobey's departure, but also due to the limited amount of time that Sony/Columbia/Tri-Star have to make more Spider-Man films before the rights revert back to Marvel/Disney. As I stated before, most comic companies have very little control over the filmed representations of their characters once they license out the rights. it wasn't until VERY recently that Marvel had the financial power to properly control their properties (like Iron Man) to make them closer to the source material. But there are still a bunch of films that Marvel signed away: X-Men and Wolverine, Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, Daredevil, and Blade.
Lastly, the films are not canon. They are not the official stories where these properties are concerned. Only the comics hold that distinction.
Don't blame comics or their publishers for the arrogance and "we're better than all other mediums" egotistical nature of Hollywood.
Marty, I was the guy who called him out on the obvious irony as you did.
Ultimadream's argument is based on a foundation of his ideological policies that, because of his sensitivities, have been offended. The sad thing is, the assumptions that he has made are supported by using a slippery-slope fallacy: Tekken and Street Fighter have fallen to consumerist-fads, therefore the series is down the tubes. In my own studies, I've come to know that most of these assumptions tend to be false.
A re-occurant game component that he's leveled against Tekken's heritage is the story, which I find to be incredible bizarre. Aren't there a lot better story-telling centric games on the market than Tekken, today? To be so offended by Tekken's story as Ultima appears to be is beyond me. Pick that Heavy Rain game, or keep playing Final Fantasys, but realize that Tekken's premises are always an excuse to have combatants fight each other in hand to hand combat.
The only element of Ultima's argument I can agree with, and or understand, is one that suggests the core series will probably be put on hold while the devs are tied up in diversionary projects, such as these.
That's not to say, I'm not excited for this cross-over; I simply can identify the complaint.
@Temjin001
saY ONE WORDS AGAINST FFVIII and i'll kill ya, leave ultimicia out of it
It's two different games, one on the SF engine the other a full 3D fighter like Tekken. If anything for us SF fans it'll hopefully be better than the EX games. I mean to be so angry at something that will be out in roughly 2 years seems a bit too foresighted. Play it before you pass judgment.
lol, TEG3SH.
Hey, I think you've had enough "liquor" for the night, and I suggest getting a designated forum-poster until you recover ^_-
Seriously though, I just saved Rhinoa in my space-suit.
Me thinks there's gonna be showdown between me and Ultimecia very soon. I hope it's a good fight =)
@ Temjin001 are you seriously playing FF8 for the first time? if so just know that her battle music is legendary stuff, probably the best track on the game
Sort of, yes. Way back when it launched I played through the first disc, and then somehow got side-tracked. I blame it on my Dreamcast obsession.
With the more modern wonder of PSP, I get this game for $10 and on the go, now, too.
It's fun, and nostalgic. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the different leveling system of this game.
Hopefully, I can take down the end boss.
Duncey-twitch-gamers like me have a hard time hacking it in these games =p
SO if a franchise is doing poorly, and no matter how many sequels they make, it just doesnt get better, you think it is better to just keep going, or quit completely.
Rather than,
Start fresh with a whole new take, and next generation technology.
You might aswell be saying that you hate the idea of remakes aswell.
The current Batman franchise, is a reboot, and its huge.
You say its disrespectful, but you have it all wrong, its PAYING respect to the original, because there is enough base there to continue to franchise on in the future, just in a different form.
One of the main things that can prove ANY franchises success, is its longevity.
And again, you say its disrespectful for video game mash-ups, because it disrespects what the game has built on its own, but then again you seem to LOVE FFXIII, which effectivaly disrespected the whole entire franchise.

@Temjin001
designated forum-poster , that was seriously funny XD
I can give this a little hope. But i just can't see how they can balance the ranged attacks from SF and the close-combat focus of Tekken…
The same way you balance wrestlers in SF, like Hugo, Alex, Zangeif, Mika, Oro etc. They have stronger attacks then other characters who are mostly about combos like Ken or Chun-Li. While others like Akuma are real strong but have no life. Don't worry about balancing issues until you have another cheap Sagat. I bet they can do the same for the Tekken version.
Cheer up. I'm hooked already!
*sigh* two years for this conglomeration of two games that have no reason to meet? Two years? God, it's no wonder that games must sell 3 million or more copies to break even. Games developers have lost the ability to develop a game in a realistic timescale or budget.
it has nothing to do with development. SF4 X Tekken especially will be built on the same engine as SF4 so it doesn't need anytime really, other than adding the Tekken characters. they say it will take 2 years to make sure ppl buy Marvel Vs capcom instead of waiting for this one
You said it TheHighlander. When I read that I was really surprised. Why bother telling us about it now? Are we really supposed to stay excited for two years about something like this?
Yeah, 'cause Gran Turismo 5, Final Fantasy XIII, L.A. Noire, and other such games that people have been continuously excited about came out within moments of their announcement.
9_9
MadPowerBomber, those games have much more detail to them than these fighters do. You can't compare them when they use cheesy still pics between matches and simple backgrounds.
madbomber's point is valid and it still stands. GT5 has long been announced, last i check its on the ps3 box
yes, horay! can't wait to see tekken vs street fighter. both of the games may appear at the next e3.
Tekken all the way. 😛
i thought it was rather cool, i play both games. I prefer street fighter my friend prefers tekken. I have two character mastered in tekken vs 6 in Street fighter. We always argue over which to play when we want to beat each other. but now we can settle it of course now we'll argue over street fighter X tekken or Tekken X street fighter
that was hot!!!!, i want tha f%$king game
I don't know. I think this can work since street fighter has a 2.5D format now so tekken can meet halfway. From the video footage it seems to be balanced enough.
I would have prefer namco vs capcom
Well, everyone in video seems happy about it. But one to two years is a long wait for a fighting game. I'll be getting both version when they release.
[Life & Technology]
The video looks good, and I like the Tekken Tag style of it. With that said I'm still skeptical, I think the Street Fighter characters will be better on the 2.5D, and the Tekken characters will be better on the 3D. I don't know how they intend on balancing the projectiles of SF and the juggling in Tekken, hopefully they do or these could be the most unbalanced fighting games ever.
WOOT! I can't wait WOOT!
i literally have tears in my eyes right now! i'm going to put both my hands in a hermetically sealed chamber until this game comes out – can't let anything happen to them until i play it!
which version are u guys getting, I'm literally torn
Maybe both… maybe neither. It depends. My fiancee doesn't care for fighting games, so I might be playing less of them in the future.
And before anyone makes a smart remark, she loves ModNation and Gran Turismo, so quiet. 😉
-Arvis
Gongrats man on tying the knot and all. preparing to be whipped already I see :). JK again Congrats
i'm going to get both, but if i had to choose i'd go with the tekken engine. i love juggling people.
Somebody likes ModNation? Is she willing to write a review for us?
Alienange
bad bad boy .lol
Both. They won't be coming out at the same time, so it won't be a 120 price tag right out the gate. There will be a time between the two just as there was between Capcom vs SNK 2 and SNK vs. Capcom: Chaos. Which I'm still miffed about being an XBox exclusive title.
I figure by the time I've seen everything Capcom's game has to offer, Namco's will be ready for release.
Hey if it looks that good already, why the 2 years for this first one?
probably businees stuff. who gets what cut, and how much. i might be sooner.
