Sony Reveals Pre-Loading For PSN, Sorcery First Up

Can't wait to grab the latest hot game that plans to hit the PlayStation Store? Are you an avid pre-orderer?

The good news is that Sony has introduced a new system that lets you pre-buy and download certain games on the PSN.

This means you can actually download your anticipated title before the release date, and you'll be able to play them immediately after they become officially available. The first title to take advantage of this new initiative is one of the most important games for the PlayStation Move: Sorcery . This will launch next week but if you want to have it ready to go, feel free to take advantage. This is similar to Steam's pre-loading capabilities, which lets PC gamers download titles before the actual release dates. It's all about being proactive, yes?

I find this to be a very cool feature although these days, I'm not sure just how badly I need to play a game within minutes of it releases. …and I thought midnight launches were the epitome of "Damn, I need this now !"

This is great news. While I wont be getting this game (not a fan of motion controls) I will for sure try it out for others.

I know a lot of people like steam, so this could be a well received feature. But it's not for me, I don't have the time to wait around until close to midnight to play a game. I see no real benefit from it. Maybe if the games were cheaper, or you could play them a day ahead maybe?

Who says you have to play at midnight its a great to be able to play anytime on release day without having to wait for the download to finsh. Is this feature limited to ps3 games only because I've always thought something like this would be good for psp games and now vita. As for Sorcery Ill pass

Buy the disc it's the same thing… There is no real benefit from doing this other than not having to leave you're house to go buy it.

It's a cool feature though. I'm just bias towards physical media.

I'll only download if the price is less than the retail release 🙂

Are you going to write a review for Sorcery, Ben?

This is long over due. Also, this is a very good way to fight used game sales. I am probably going to take advantage of this for Sorcery. Still undecided but I am bending that way. Ever since I bought the Vita this new digital way is working out nicely!

this is a great psn feature but has one major stumbling block and thats the digital release pricing. Some of the pricing of full retail games on psn is absurd here in the PAL regions and is usually net with the usual its not us it's the publisher arguement. Its the same with digital pricing on vita too. Until they make digital pricing reasonable and fair this is not likely to take off. example $1 does not equal 1 euro which does not equal 1 bitish pound which seems to be the case at the moment

Nice feature for PSN titles but as far as disc goes I'll stick with my media.

One question not sure if you know the answer Ben but here I go. Ok so I pre-download a game now if there is a day 1 patch which many games have nowadays is that also gonna be downloaded before I play? Or am I still gonna have to wait for the update to download the same way it does now?

I was glad to see that with the Ghost Recon Beta Yes I know it was because PS Store updates Tuesdays and the beta didnt start til Thursday. But after reading the comments of support for their Steam like thinking and how more ppl would have bought ME3 had you been able to pre download it I think Sony finally listened. If they want to get more digital sales to compete with hard copy games their going to have to make little incentives if their not going to reduce the price for digital copies. Ièm hope to see this applied to digital PSN exclusive titles as well
