As Sony doesn't release hardware numbers with the monthly NPD results, it's sometimes difficult to gauge the performance of the Vita.
Sales numbers get released at different times and we do know the unit could be selling a lot better than it is (it just needs software). However, that being said, it appears Sony is happy with the way their new portable performed during last holiday season.
According to what SCE UK boss Fergal Gara told CVG , Vita sales "absolutely exploded" around Christmas:
"We had a pre-Christmas lull where sales were quite low. But that absolutely exploded 20-fold from that low-point into the peak of Christmas. That's very encouraging and shows that with the right promotion and software we can light that fire."
And although we've complained about the lack of Vita software, especially in regards to what we see during the first six months of this year, Gara said we shouldn't worry. He admitted that the game release schedule appears light, but added- "The cupboard won't be bare." Yeah, well, it better not be. A price drop in North America and Europe would really help, too, as the Vita price cut in Japan resulted in a four-fold sales increase .
