EA Mentions PSP2, Compares Power To PlayStation 3

As most analysts and journalists will tell you, the PSP2 is basically an inevitability. And based on recent rumors, it might be quite the impressive little device.

But just how impressive…? Well, first of all, EA boss John Riccitiello openly referred to the PSP2 and said that Sony shouldn't have to worry about Apple in regards to the portable gaming kingdom. Then he made a statement that has already spread across the Internet at lightning speed: "Having something as powerful as a PlayStation 3 in your pocket is a pretty compelling idea." He then talked a bit about how Blu-Ray is far more appealing these days, and then elaborated on that previous comment:

"Sometimes the competitive advantage requires games to show it off to prove its compelling. So reading in a press release that it’s as powerful as a high-end console in your pocket is sort of a little flat. Look at it [PSP2] the first time; when you actually see it happening it can be awfully compelling."

Okay, so wait, that implies two things. First, it says Sony sent a release to game makers informing them about the PSP2, and actually compared the new handheld's power to the PS3 or at least a "high-end console." Secondly, it sort of implies that Riccitiello has already seen games on the unit, or perhaps believes that when we do, it'll be mind-blowing. All this PSP2 news is really starting to heat up and this latest tidbit has really amped up our excitement level.

Hey Sony, how's about an official press release for those who write the news…?
