SSX: Deadly Descents is the long-awaited next-gen installment and although many have their reservations, we're all hoping for a return to snowboarding glory.
The proposed changes haven't gone over well with the fans, but we need more details before we make an informed decision, yes? More info has indeed arisen and thanks to the March 2011 issue of the Official Xbox Magazine (as cited by Stickskills ), you can now get a closer look at the gameplay and features. Unsurprisingly, they claim to have "great characters, great tricks, great environments, awesome speeds, great music, tight controls, and totally ridiculous gameplay." Well, that's very nice PR, but how's about some more concrete info?
Feel better? Or are we still seething over the departure from the norm? We do have faith in the developers and we're trying to remain optimistic, but when franchises begin to lose their core fans…well, that's a problem. Hopefully, when the game arrives, all our fears will be put to rest.

I don't want any seriousness in this series. Why couldn't they do SSX like it's suppose to be and just make a new snowboarding franchise.

agreed
Burnout on snow sounds very promising for the SSX fan. Hopefully they will add a burnout like slo-mo crash sequences.
That would be really cool idea.
i'm excited. i was a big fan of the quasi-open world in SSX3, wonder if that format returns…
Thank God there aren't "Skate" controls. I wasn't a big fan of that style.

It's basically Call of Duty on snow.
What's with this survival garbage?
What happened to the FUNNNNN snowboarding racing with STYLE and a lot of showing off?
Good luck EA
By the way 1080 Snowboarding for Gamecube already did this survival stuff in some of their tracks. This is nothing new.
Lol I remember you making the remark, "SSX: Modern Boardfare"
lol, it's the truth.
Watch the last level, you'll be in a warzone.
Mark my words 😀
Burnout on snow…. Why can't it be SSX, you know the great series that kicked off PS2's launch with unique gameplay, on current gen hardware? Is that too much to ask?
Because the mantra this generation is: "Nothing that ever was… will ever be again."
Yeah, it's ridiculous. Are they ashamed of their reputation, or something, to have to reference a race car game on snow to aptly describe their sequel to a long running, generally acclaimed, franchise? Is it not like SSX, , or something? Now I have a vision of going ridiculously fast down a straight way dodging stuff instead of jumping up half pipes, pulling off insane tricks and combos etc against firework backgrounds and then grinding rails.. nope SSX isn't known for that anymore. It's now more appropriate to think of it as "Burnout on snow"
One of my favorites from last gen! I've been somewhat shocked it took EA this long to getting around to making another.
I like what I'm hearing so far. Just give me some smooth controls and slick production values and I'm there!
hopfully that good soundtrack is as good as the previous soundtracks were
I hope it plays like the Cool Boarders games.
Cool Boarders = amazing for snowboarding racing.
Few snowboarding games are about racing skill anymore. They're all about shortcuts and tricks.
Hopefully They will add as some kind of arcade mode in the main menu(HOPEFULLY)
They are wise to look to Criterion for some ideas. The game already sounds fantastic so adding in some online competition would be great.
And what's wrong with adding a few heart pounding modes in a snowboarding game?
What's wrong with staying with what defined the franchise to begin with?
Why not release something like this as DLC or a side-entry to the series.
They're probably gonna keep this style from now on.
I think they are staying with what defined the franchise to begin with. They're simply adding on to what we already know. The game already was pretty much "Burnout on snow" if you consider the open mountain designs and multiple challenges. Simply adding a Survival mode isn't destroying the series.
And oxygen-barren death zones? What's NOT to like about THAT?
been so long since we have had a snowboarding game, so im both excited and devious at the same time.
hopefully it does not turn out like the recent tony hawk games!
first few on ps1 were freaking classics, still play them on my PSP.
the later ps2 and ps3 ones though sucked donkey balls!!!!!!
Yeah, it's amazing the fall Tony Hawk's games took after Dreamcast.
The ps1 games were masterpieces.
Remember Grind Session? That game was really fun too.
The best thing that will HOPEFULLY come from the release of this new title… a HD collection of SSX, SSX: Tricky and SSX3. To me, the fourth title was never made.
This description does make it sound a LOT better, though. I may be tempted to give it a chance now. I strongly doubt it will even come near the fun factor of Tricky and SSX3, though.
I sorta feel better but I would have preferred they keep SSX the way it was. I love the first one because it was one of the better launch games for ps2 and it was mad fun.
I don't want to play burnout on snow boards. I want SSX the way it was. With cool tricks and great music.
Forget the new SSX, EA….Just put SSX tricky and SSX 3 in the PSN Store.
Really like Burnout on snow? Really? Is the IRONY of calling it like Burnout lost on the writer of this post? What everyone is worried about is that they will make it like Burnout. Burnout was a super fun easy to pick up yet with lotsa of depth and play almost cartoony franchise that was ruined by making it more "gritty and real". Gee hearing that they are making SSX more like that is exactly what I wanted to hear.
