Activision Will Launch Call Of Duty FPS In Late 2011

Psst…hey. Get this. Big surprise announcement…no way you were anticipating it. Might be the surprise of the generation…

Believe it or not, Activision Blizzard issued a solid earnings report and then confirmed that another Call of Duty FPS will launch in 2011. Activision Publishing Eric Hirshberg first made the astonishing statement- "We will launch a new first-person action title during the back half of 2011" and then, as if it needed further explanation, COO Thomas Tippl added, "next year's Call of Duty will be a first-person shooter." They didn't offer any details but most are expecting Modern Warfare 3 , which has been rumored to be in development at a freshly-staffed Infinity Ward. We also know about another CoD project that is currently in the works at Sledgehammer Games; at first, it was labeled as an "action/adventure" game but recent job listings have sort of clarified that it'll be a FPS as well. Now, we know you're probably in shock upon hearing this news but if you really think about it, it didn't come totally out of the blue. I mean, billions of dollars is sort of…a lot of money. So yeah, maybe we should've seen this coming.

…anyway. If we give out an award for most predictable news story during our end-of-year awards, we've got the guaranteed winner right here.
