Aliens Writer: The Heart Of The Story Is A Female Character

When gamers learned there wouldn't be a playable female character in Aliens: Colonial Marines , the backlash was…well, quite significant to say the least.

But Gearbox writer Mikey Neumann has tried to clarify things for those who remain miffed. In a series of Tweets conversing with "HeatherAnneCampbell," Neumann was somewhat vague but did say that producer Brian Burleson may have "misspoken" and that the team hasn't announced everything they're doing just yet. Furthermore, don't think there are no women in the game; that was a common – and obviously erroneous – assumption after the news broke. Wrote Neumann:

"Speaking from a story perspective, the heart of the story in the game is a character named Bella. A female, and the best I've ever written."

There's no doubt that the "Alien" franchise has always featured strong female roles and it appears the developers aren't ignoring that. Isn't it crazy how things can kinda get blown out of proportion every now and then? Or rather…really often?
