JRPG aficionados, unite!
Until now, we hadn't seen a Neptunia installment on PlayStation 4. But thankfully, that has changed.
Welcome Megadimension Neptunia VII , as freshly revealed over at the PlayStation Blog . Featuring everything from Nep's signature victory poses to silky smooth 1080p visuals, it's gonna be a treat for those with an affinity for quirky Japanese role-playing experiences. Developer Idea Factory offers a ton of info at the Blog; for example, they talk about NEXT forms ("the coolest and strongest transformations yet in the whole Neptunia franchise"), new additions to the battle system ("Giant Battles, Parts Break and Formation Skills" among them), and more!
Heck, we haven't played one since the original title arrived on PS3 back in 2011, but we hear the games have gotten better with time. You up for the first PS4 entry?
Related Game(s): Megadimension Neptunia VII
I'm wicked lost. 1, mark 2, and Victory were on PS3. They got Vita rehashes and spinoffs. All under "Hyperdimension Neptunia"
So what the heck and where in the story is this Megadimension part VII?
Anybody know? I like em, but the battle system in the last two is a little too boring compared to Omega Quintet, Atelier games, or Fairy Fencer F. If the battles are better I'm all in.
Fairy Fencer F is getting a remake on PS4 too, which is good news.
Naming is just a name. Doesn't mean anything really. I like all the combat systems so far. I like the other games combat systems too. I think there's a new fairy fencer coming soon.
I thought it might have some significance here. Like we missed some games despite NISA being very good to us.
I've always had this secret desire to grab a 'Neptunia' game, but I've always been held back by zero knowledge of what it's all about, and the fact that the pony-tailed heroines scare me off for some reason… what IS a Neptunia game all about anyway?
Okay full breakdown coming at you!
All the main girls are based on a console manufacturer with the older sisters representing the main console and the younger sisters the handhelds.
Neptunia the main girl and her sister Nepgear are Sega.
Noire who recently had her own game, though it did not go over too well with fans because they inserted a random love interest, and her sister Uni are Playstation.
Blanc and her sisters the twins Rom and Ram are Nintendo, twins cause of the DS.
Then lastly Vert is Microsoft/Xbox and she does not have a sister because they have never made a handheld.
The games revolve around holding "shares" which decide a kingdom's influence and power over the game's world, market shares get it? XD
First game has you as enemies with the other kingdoms and girls but they slowly warm up to each other throughout the series going from enemies to friendly rivals.
The entire series is loaded with humour dealing with the gaming industry and its history, Japanese culture, anime references, and references to classic RPG's and other games. Sometimes the girls will even directly break the fourth-wall.
The games are a bit rough mechanics wise though the Vita and PC iterations have fixed quite a bit, but if you can get past the roughness and don't go in expecting a serious game but a comedy they can be quite enjoyable.
Full warning though there is A LOT of weird and niche Japanese humour.

By weird and niche he means laugh out loud often sexual humor 🙂
Also for a bit more info:
The battles work on a separate field where each character has a turn and a range to move in. Sometimes you'll need to use your turn just to get up near the bad guy or they will use theirs to do the same. When attacking your weapon or magic will occupy a certain space ahead of you so you get your enemies in that space. Once you are up there you can attack with the face buttons and the effectiveness of the attack unfolds based on what moves you use.
There are hit points and special move points and status effects like any other JRPG. The special moves and magic are what make the action more exciting to watch than people swatting each other.
When the shit hits the fan you can transform each console girl into a fully grown sexyy woman in a badass outfit that lets her hover and attack much stronger though it takes up lots of special points to transform.
