If you're looking for the first Rainbow Six Siege expansion, you'll have to wait a bit longer.
Ubisoft previously said the Operation Black ice expansion would arrive in January, but the publisher has recently confirmed via this blog post that the add-on won't be ready until February 2.
Those who picked up the $30 Season Pass can immediately access the two DLC characters when they're released, but everyone else will have to unlock those characters or purchase them seven days later. The squad members in question come from Canada's Joint Task Force 2 counter-terrorism unit, and are equipped with new weapons and "unique gadgets." Operation Black Ice will also feature a new map (free for all), along with new weapon skins and a few gameplay upgrades.
Ubisoft added that every new operative added this year (8 are coming in all) can be unlocked through normal gameplay:
"The data we have suggests that the average FPS player spends 8-10 hours a week playing their favorite FPS (also in-line with our observation during the closed beta), so it should only take between two to three weeks maximum to unlock an operator."
And as there's about three months of space between each of the four planned expansions, Ubisoft figures you have plenty of time to save up in-game currency to unlock all 8 operators. Late last year, the team explained how the playlists will continue to evolve , and we remind everyone that Siege is a solid and refreshing multiplayer experience.

Currently this game is a mess, riddled with connection issues, balance issues, hackers, bugs/glitches , and bad net code. If you're on the fence about this game I'd leave it alone until they get these issues sorted.
Mental that they're doing an expansion while such horrible game breaking issues still plague the game.

Umm game isn't a mess. Plays very well so far. I get that occasional connection issues but not that much. Haven't seen hackers or anything. Balance issues? Each can be countered by picking specific operators. There's a counter to each class, figure it out.
Only problem I see so far is people using shotguns. Game is very close quarters that they are extremely effective. After a certain distance though, they're highly useless. Second is the defuser, range is too big, it should only work next to bomb. These one works as long as it's in the same room so I end up putting it at an entrance and guarding it from outside. I took advantage of that but it still should be decreased.
Plays pretty bad atm actually, you've got a good chance to run into issues including being on the wrong data center ( like playing in Asia from NA ), getting error codes and kicked, endless load times that you've gotta alt f4 out of, game not starting or ending properly so you just sit there doing nothing, friends randomly getting kicked, despite being in a squad your friends will be in a different game.
As for balance issues, I wasn't referring to the classes, they're done fine, but more so on the weapons. As you've pointed out the shotgun is a beast at close-mid range usually resulting in a 1 shot kill, which I'd be ok with if it was pump only, but the semi auto shotty is in the game, just needs dmg to fall at range but should remain a one shot at a very short distance. I'd also say the damage on some other weapons needs to be checked as well, when a 9mm does as much damage as a 5.56 to folks in armor… yeah I dunno about that.
Funny enough, I think the defuser having such a big plant range is a good thing, means defenders need to guard all of the room and not just a small set area, which would be easily done through say a broken wall. That's balanced imo.
