NieR: Automata is in development at PlatinumGames and it's slated to arrive later this year.
It's probably a bigger deal in Japan than it is here, though, which is why there was entire event dedicated to the upcoming game at the EX Theater in Roppongi, Tokyo.
And from that NieR Music Concert & Talk Live event (possibly a wonky translation there), we've got some new game footage and live music performances, courtesy of DualShockers . The trailer shows off a couple new characters; A2: YoRHa Type A NO. 2 and 9S: YoRHa No. 9 Type S. These will be featured alongside the apparent protagonist, B2: YoRHa No. 2 Type B, who we've seen before. A lot of numbers and letters that don't mean much but then again, we're really not expecting a stellar narrative. This will be more about action and besides, it's Platinum. They're awesome but not when it comes to story.
We've received complete details prior to this event but we still need an official launch date. As for me, I might go back and replay the original game when the sequel comes out.

Ahhh, but the wonderful thing about this title is that the original creator of NieR is heavily inveested into the creation of Automata! Which means the story won't be left to PLatinum, which is a good thing after how abysmal MGRising's story was.
But I am just thankful we're getting anything at all! I honestly never thought I'd ever see anything of NieR gain, after it's fairly average succcess I thought it would just be abandonned, but no, we have this and it's really going to hit this year? Utterly remarkable.
Really pumped for this, from the Gameplay demonstrations shown at the event, the combat looks stella. They've even kept the sidecrolling swtich featue in NieR. Happy as can be.
Platinum is there just for the gameplay, the original creators are working on the rest so this thing has a shot at being a masterpiece or at the very least a great game.
This is sexy. Long live Japanese gaming unchained!
And the Lord said; let there be NieR.
And it was good.
No doubt gameplay is far better than the original I'm just wondering if the story will be as good because they nailed it with father/daughter relationship and the cast was awesome as well as the world.

Like others have said the story should be there, the original creators are working on the game.
I hope it has the awesome variety of gameplay, and wicked soundtrack and story the first game had.
NIER is seriously one of my top games…it is just fantastic.
