The Witcher 3 Patch 1.08 Fixes Frame Rate…Sort Of

Updates are supposed to improve performance, correct?

Well, despite the myriad of bug fixes offered by patch 1.07 for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt , gamers still reported a significant frame rate decrease, which proved to be moderately irritating.

Thankfully, though, the latest patch – update 1.08 – seems to have returned the frame rate to normal. Mostly. A Digital Foundry analysis finds that the new patch does indeed bring "overall improvements to performance, including some issues that may have been caused by 1.07." For instance, Crookback Bog would slow to a 20fps crawl. The only bad news is that the update appears to have alleviated the frame rate issue in this area on Xbox One; on PS4, it's still at 20fps.

Still, riding through Novigrad is better on PS4, reaching an average of 30fps. I just think it's a little funny that the frame rate is basically the way it was after patch 1.05…we really can't do any better than that? Well, anyway, patch 1.08 does provide fans with a ton of fixes and improvements , including the the new ability of Geralt's to roll upon falling, thereby lessening the damage taken.

Apparently you can toggle off post processing effects like motion blur and it'll boost performance to the best ever.
It's kinda like PC gaming but on console. Play with the switch board of graphics options, then test how the game runs.

Has anyone had any success with the Skellige's Most Wanted side quest? It would be nice if the werewolf would stop sinking into the ground so we could all finish the SQ.

It does seem to be better, It's playable again at least and Geralt could always roll to reduce damage.

I have to say, I keep seeing this kind of article about The Witcher 3 all over the Internet, but I have never had a single issue with my PS4 copy. I've not seen anything close to a 20 FPS slowdown, or glitchy werewolves, or anything else that would annoy me about the game. It has quite honestly been one of the smoothest performing games I've played in a long time (except for Geralt moving like a tank).
