Sony Shows Off How Destiny Runs On Vita

Here's another reason to get Destiny on the PlayStation 4: Remote Play support for the PlayStation Vita.

Sony has released a video showing how Bungie's hotly anticipated game runs on the portable unit. They say Bungie optimized the controls for Remote Play, and that includes touchscreen controls for lobbing grenades.

PlayStation social media manager Sid Shuman adds that Remote Play was a popular feature during the game's beta test, as Destiny was the #1 overall PS4 Remote Play game during the month of July. It's important to note that the beta test in question only ran for about ten days during that month, so obviously, a lot of Vita owners gave it a whirl.

Still not sure I'd care about playing a game like this on Vita but hey, it's a nice bonus.

Damn, this remote play is nothing to scoff at IMO. Let's just say having options is NICE.

IMHO Remote Play is the biggest innovation in gaming history. Especially being able to play PS4 games from outside the vicinity of your PS4. Remote Play worked great with the Destiny Beta as well in which I logged probably 4 hours. I just killed Diablo using Remote Play. I use it all the time. Also, I haven't run into a game yet that doesn't play well using Remote Play. When members of my family are using Netflix I can have issues from my room. Otherwise it's been pretty much perfect.

I have to agree…for the most part. I enjoy remote play and the visuals are equally as stunning. I have a family and only one TV (I know…how barbaric, right). I played Counterspy on the Vita and the load times were horrible. Enter remote play and all is fixed. Most of my Diablo run has taken place on remote play and while it isn't terrible, the trigger buttons are hit and miss when it comes to the rear touch pad. I finger the hell out of the Vita's back side at times and still no response. Some of my woes could be alleviated by allowing the buttons to be remapped but it still wouldn't be perfect. I played half of The Last of Us this way as well and minus having to swap the trigger and bumper buttons this game ran smoothly. I still always prefer a DS4 in my hands but when the TV is occupied this is a great second option. Bring on Destiny!

Crusader are you the same Crusader that commented to me the other day on DualShockers about how great your remote play connection is?
What kind of router do you use and what kind of settings do you have?

The 8 axis motion sensor works surprisingly well for precise head shots. The right stick gets you close enough, until you aim down the sites and go for the head shot. IMO it was much more accessible on the Vita than it was on the DS3.

I'm curious about what people's opinions are about the quality of remote play.
For me to get a reasonably playable connection I need to be directly connected via PS4's wi-fi and be within closer proximity between the two units (PS4 and Vita).

I wasted a bunch of time the other day trying to get a smooth connection by connecting through my wireless N router without using direct connect. It's a link sys router. It just runs like crap though through remote play like this. I don't see how my ISP would have any bearing on the performance here but I'm wondering if it does, somehow. I get 10MB down and 1MB up. But as a LAN this really shouldn't be an issue for me. I don't care to play remote play from a truly remote location.
Anyway, I'm disappointed overall about the quality of remote play for being something that is as marketed as heavily as Sony pushes it. I mean really, if it's going to be mainstream successful it needs to incredible simple to work right.
