There are times when I wish I could simply issue a one-word review. In the case of inFamous: Second Son , that word is obvious from the get-go; it’s a word that permeates every last nook and cranny of the game, every particle effect of every prodigious power, and every step your character takes. It’s a word fans of the series know well because above all else, inFamous is – and hopefully will always be – fun . Yeah, I can’t stand the main character. The story has too many predictable “oppression of a certain group” clichés. But you know what I’m very often doing when playing?

Smiling.

Part of the reason for that smile is the splendid environment, which, despite being too dark and foreboding for my tastes, is beautifully constructed and immensely immersive. The city of Seattle is brimming with activity and atmosphere, two traits that make any virtual world well worth visiting. Second Son is indeed a great example of what the PlayStation 4 is capable of, especially in regards to performance. This is a game that runs perfectly nearly one hundred percent of the time, and you can tell Sucker Punch took advantage of the PS4’s power. From the fantastic character design to the meticulous detail seen in our surroundings, this is a graphical tour de force.

The sound isn’t quite as impressive, just because I sense some minor technical difficulties. The balancing is off (again, something I continue to complain about with next-gen software) and the soundtrack, while quite fitting, could’ve been even more insistent than it is. That being said, there’s no denying the extremely high quality of every audio aspect, from the effects to the music to the voice performances. The latter really are great, as top-notch performances from accomplished actors like Troy Baker (Joel, The Last Of Us ) add style and professionalism to the narrative.

Mutants are being hunted because everyone is afraid of their capabilities. This very “X-Men”-like premise places the protagonist, a conduit named Delsin Rowe, in the midst of an ongoing manhunt. After all, he can absorb the powers of others so he’s automatically a societal pariah. Unfortunately, the military presence and fascist regime in the city of Seattle creates an oppressive environment. And why should Delsin fight to protect those who despise him? Why not just exact revenge against an intolerant government? You could be the bigger man and fight for virtue and goodness, I suppose, but…

Seeing how this seems to be your knee jerk response to most games, I've come to a couple of conclusions..

1: You suck at gaming, and should probably take up a new hobby. And even if you don't suck at games, maybe you are some online gaming god that we don't know about, but if this is your typical response, then you no longer enjoy gaming and should probably find a new hobby…

2:You seem to have rage issues and should get that looked at, it's not healthy.

That being said, I haven't gotten a PS4 yet and so obviously haven't played this game yet, but when i do, if I actually find myself agreeing with you, I will apologize profusely. and maybe see if we can get you a prescription for medical marijuana or something to help calm down your obviously crippling rage issues…

    Don't feed the troll!

I stopped reading this guy's mindless rants a long time ago, but just like Beam, I also happened to notice that "this is probably THE WORST game ive EVER played!" line.

This is what you can expect from a guy that constantly bashes everything Sony and yet still constantly buys its products, some on day one even.

Every time you redeem yourself, you immediately ruin it.

You will never cease to amaze me. To call this the worst game you have ever played and talk about all these 'bugs' you have ran into just proves how crazy you are.

Honestly, your talking trash, I don't believe a word of what you have said, I have not heard a single thing from ANYONE ANYWHERE about ANY of those bugs. Having spent a large amount of time in the game myself and never running into one single bug ever.

    BUT
The worst part about all of this is this line:

"quite the disappointing contrast to titanfall which feels polished to within an inch of its life!"

This proves you are nothing but a mindless PC/Xbox fanboy. Seriously.

EDIT: AHAHAHAHA! I just realised something. You just proved that you either haven't played the game properly, or at all.

"gone are the moral powers as well, the first 2 games had different powers whether you were good or bad."

SO FUNNY. There are different variations of the abilities depending on what Karma you have. The Evil Karma abilities are much more fun then the Good.

I completed the game as a hero first and immediately started it again as a villain. Great game, great fun.

I'm halfway done the evil side, and a quarter done the good so far.

I don't mind Delsin that much, other than that stupid hat, at least he has cole's jacket now.

The person I find very annoying is the antagonist.
I'm really not threatened by old lady villains.
It feels a step away from fighting a super Mrs. Doubtfire at times.

I think she was menacing, I liked the line "I'm told it hurts" but the story was so hopeless we only really see her twice in the entire game. Sucker Punch really needs new writers.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing Amy Hennig getting a spot at Sucker Punch and working on the story for the next inFamous. I liked the story in Second Son but it definitely could've been better. I also want the next game to allow a little more interactivity with the open world and be a bit longer. This game was engaging but definitely seemed a bit shorter than 1 and 2. Still the best game on the new systems so far.
