New “Cartoony” Burnout To Be A Downloadable Title?

Well before the official announcement, a game called "Burnout Crash" is getting some attention.

Previously rumored to be in development, we now have an ESRB rating , which provides us with a few more hints. As you can see, they're describing "cartoony vehicles" and a top-down perspective, neither of which is common to a next-gen racing game. Plus, when you factor in other bizarre sequences involving UFOs, tornados, and "lobster monsters," maybe it's safe to assume that Burnout Crash will be a downloadable title for the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live service. The ESRB will only list the game for the PS3 and 360 and as we said, we have nothing official, but the description makes it sound like a digital download, doesn't it? And that doesn't mean the game will be any less appealing…people love crashing into stuff. We know that.

We'll have to wait for the concrete details but in the meantime, keep your eyes peeled for anything new concerning a fresh Burnout installment.

I'm sure it'll be fun, but I'm still hoping for a proper follow-up to Burnout Paradise!!!

Top down? Hmmm… sounds like the original Grand theft auto games. That might work really well – especially as a download title.

I honestly don't see how a top down racing game can work well this gen, unless they pan the camera a looooong way back so you can see everything ahead. GTA Chinatown wars really ruined the driving experience by not being able to see more than 20 feet in front of you.

I would've loved to have seen a return to form with something similar to Burnout Revenge or Takedown. I absolutely LOVED those games!!

I have enjoyed a lot of risky projects lately, so maybe this new approach to Burnout could be a gem waiting to burst out and crash spectacularly in a fiery explosion of awesomeness!!!

Did you ever play GTA1 or GTA2? They were both Top down, and a lot of fun, a lot more arcadey though, but fun. It's always been amazing to me that the GTA franchise we have now started with those old top down arcade games.

I did play those old GTA's back in the day. Was one of the first MA rated games I played around the age of 11. Ahhh, memories.

I guess we're so spoiled these days with excellent graphics, expanding draw distances, realistic physics and so on that old top down or arcadey formulas (while fun) are a bit of a risk with the younger audiences these days.

But who knows? Burnout Crash could be the best PSN and Live game download yet, just have to wait and see how it looks.

Sounds ok
A HD re-release of burnout takedown & Revenge with trophy support sounds better!

Well I wasn't expecting that at all. I'll still retain interest in this game, just in case this is a bit of misinformation, but that isn't looking likely.
Peace.

After what they did with Paradise City, they are going to go way back to basics? I hope that this is a PSN game, or maybe it's something for the Xperia Play? but for the PS3 I was hoping for something a little better. I'll keep an eye out on this, but unless there's a full Burnout game coming down the line, I'll probably pass on this one.

While this might be enjoyable for those who love top down arcade style racing fun, I'm afraid that it is just not up my alley.

I love some burnout, but it looks like I'll have to wait a while longer.

If it was for the psp, then maybe…

It's annoying, but with a very, very few exceptions (namely flow and flower) it just does not feel "right" to sit there with a multiprocessor blu-ray ps3 beast and a huge TV and play a game that just as well could have been something my son play on his mobile.
It just feels wrong. Annoying, there shouldn't be anything wrong in enjoying the small, simple pleasures too, but there you go.

I don't know about Flow, but you're wrong about Flower. I would have been sad if it was stuck on a mobile device and unable to grace my giganto TV. 😉

Oh by all means, I tried to say that Flower and flow are the exceptions 🙂
They are both easily my favourites of the psn games so far! Although Flow were *waaaay* too short.

Why does this sound like that lame Red Faction downloadable game? *-_-*

For some reason as soon as I read that this was going to be a PSN XBLA game instead of the standard $64.04 full release it immediately made me think of an interview with David Jaffe about the new Twisted Metal. He said something to the effect of they (Eat, Sleep, Play) tossed around the idea of doing a PSN release of Twisted Metal instead of a full version, and the general consensus from fellow developers was that they really didnt want to step down into that if they had an opportunity to do a full scale release. This was before they had decided whether or not to do a story for each character I believe.

Personally I think developers should go the digital distribution route if they're taking a risk on a new twist on an old game (new Resident Evil anyone?) or if they're indie developers and dont have much money, but have something fresh and fun to offer gamers, Shooter was a good example and I hear Braid is good too though I've yet to try it.

OT: I wonder what Sony is doing for the Indie developers that depend on PSN for revenue, I heard they're offering more advertising or something for them, but surely they're able to do something to make sure this PSN incident doesn't put them out of business come this time next year.

sweet!
id much rather a full retail release, but this will do.
burnout paradise is one of the best games ever made, so i cant wait to see more from the series!
but, criterion, this time can we have the PC version same time?
and not release a PC version and not give them almost all the DLC!?
i bought the PC version, then wanted to buy big surf island, but its not on PC.
so i have to go and buy the ps3 version again just for some DLC?
f*ck that!
great way to support your fans!
make them wait months longer, then make them miss out on half the content.
brilliant!
no wonder theres so much piracy on the PC!
maybe if developers stopped treating there fans like this and actually gave us everything, and features PC games should have like dev consoles and level editors then there wont be as much piracy!
