You know what's cool? Learning that one of the true geniuses of comedy is a definite gamer.
Long-time comedian and Academy Award-winning actor Robin Williams was a guest on "The Tonight Show with Conan 0'Brien" recently, and he took some time to talk about his online gaming experiences. Not surprisingly, he tosses in plenty of jokes to go along with it – he does this better than anyone – and we laughed at the idea of video game military veterans. "They're spawning everywhere!" HAha. Feel free to check out the relevant video clip and be prepared to smile; we think it's bad-ass that this guy plays online. Who wouldn't want to run into him on the battlefield? He'd have the unfair advantage; he'd make everyone laugh so hard he'd be able to mow us all down without much effort. We've also heard Williams has a thing for the Battlefield franchise and let's not forget that his daughter is named Zelda. Oh, there could be other reasons for that name, but it's apparently true that she was named after The Legend of Zelda . We've heard stories of other big Hollywood names being into gaming, but some of those are just bogus claims for the sake of publicity.
Williams sounds like a true-blue gamer. And if that's the case, we officially invite him to a match in any online game he chooses…maybe Killzone 2 ?
Dude……he's gotta be in his 50's!!!
Awesome.
I got two thumbs down cause I said that a guy was in his 50's? Well somebody needs to drink a nice tall glass of grow the hell up.
Looks like you got another one. I gave you a thumbs up to counter that thumbs down.
I'm sorry
this has nothing to do with this post ,
I'm in the MAG beta.
Yeah…… X
Congrats.
Me too. Downloading a 2gig update tho. =
That is the absolute trouth.
"your my bitch",
"how old are you"
"old enough to nail your ass old man!!!"
Oh, classic XBL
Robin Williams is a hack…his career was over fifteen years ago…
Williams was a pioneer in the land of comedy and absolutely nobody has his rapid-fire wit.
The state of his career is subjective but he is NOT a hack.
agree to disagree…
personally, everything he has ever done makes me feel embarrased for him…it's like his mind and sense of humor stopped dead in their tracks at the age of 11 but his body kept growing…except for "Death To Smoochy", I have to admit that was mildly entertaining…
Same with Eddie Murphy too, he used to be funny but something strange happened…if you want to talk about pioneers of comedy look at George Carlin or Andrew Dice Clay…
I'm talking about his stand-up. Have you even seen it?
May have when I was younger…I just always remember being turned off from his work though…
He most certainly is not a hack. He has done more than comedy, though his comedic career is one to be admired. His standup from the 80s and early 90s was groundbreaking and to me, still hilarious.
"It's 3am, you're pissing on a dumpster… Its Miller Time"
Eddie Murphy was one of the funniest Stand Up artists as well. He took his influence from Richard Prior (another groundbreaking comedian) and inspired many, including but not limited to, Chris Rock, another of the greater comedians of our generation. Just watch Raw and Delirious (prepare for VERY politically incorrect content) to understand how far he pushed comedy in his day.
Favourite Richard Prior Joke, that he made shortly after his return to Stand-Up following his caught-on-fire-freebasing-cocaine incident:
"When you're running down the street on fire, people get out of your way!"
I'm not saying that they weren't funny people…I'm saying that these people aren't funny anymore…
Bill Cosby was 'the' pioneer of comedy, not Robin Williams or George Carlin.
Anyways, can we please stop this conversation now?
Edit: Robin is a very funny actor, but he is not 'the' pioneer of comedy. Although he is very good at making people laugh, and he is very nice.
I mean, he doesn't even have to say something funny, all he has to do is smile and viola! An entire audience bursts out with laughter!
After a while, Robin wont even have to do a funny dance or make a funny face, anyone who would dare to look at him would laugh.. But why would they laugh? Because in their minds, they would be imagining a funny movie that Robin starred in, and that alone would make them laugh.
It is a fact that it is easier to remember the good memories, rather than the bad. So if we can remember such movies as Popeye, Hook, Toys, Mrs. Doubtfire and Jumanji, which all starred Robin Williams, then the memory must have been a good one.
Again, Robin Williams is not the best comedian of all time, but is in the top 15!
But, as everyone knows, you cannot really have a solid argument on who is better, just as you cannot argue about what game is better, or what console is better, because everyone has their own opinion on what they like, and you cannot change that.
Me? I like Will Smith.

Hey Jammer, Mr. Criticizer, lets see you have an incredible career such as Robin did. So what if he has hit a bit of a bump. The guy has made some of the funniest movies, and has done some of the funniest stand up of all time. The man is so respected and adored and you call him a hack? I think you need to check yourself.
I think some of you need to stop attacking the guy for having an opinion.
*cough,lowkey,cough*
He played MGS4. Nuff Said.
(was a joke)
MAG BETA FTW!!!
yup yup Wave 1 of MAG Beta. Now to log on during gameplay hours.
Wave 1, here I come! Can't wait to get home after work and play me some MAG. Kinda sucks that the beta is only open during certain times of the day, though. That means I'll only get about an hour or two with it when I get off work. =(
I recently saw Death to Smoochy again for the first time in a while. He was fantastic in that movie. It's funny to hear him curse so much.
Oh man, just watch some of his stand-up shows. He cusses like a sailor. He also has wicked hairy arms! Makes me want to go watch Jumanji!
no offense but that was one of the strangest creepiest remarks I have ever heard in my life…it's sort of like saying you battled him online in Cod4 or something but you just don't like him cause his balls taste weird…
lol Pearljamer
That sounds like a mushroom induced analogy, and seems at home in the same category as strangest and creepiest.
I'm guessing you have never seen his stand-up. A curse word every other syllable, Makes jokes about himself about his ape-like body hair. And the amount of energy he has while preforming is crazy.
Lee Evans does this too and makes jokes about himself as does Roy Chubby Brown so why is it any different just because Robin Williams is doing this ?
I'd meet him on the battlefield to shoot his face off, can't stand this guy. It's not funny to say out loud what you are doing.
that god I'm not the only one…
Here's 3. Not a fan either.
lol, I take it you don't like watching stand up then…I don't think I've ever met a comedian who doesn't talk about what they are doing in life on stage. It's pretty much all they've got for material.
I like some stand up, I just cant think of their names right now.
Brian Regan
I was waiting for him to talk about games. I met him at E3 in 2003 when he was playing a Tom Clancy game at the Ubisoft booth. I saw him at other E3s thereafter too.
I always knew he was a gamer.
Back when anyone could go in and enjoy E3
God I hate Hulu 😛 I always feel like I have access to nothing. In Canada btw
Same here…Hulu and MTV…I get so pissed off with it
nanu-nanu !
don't remind me…please
If I play KZ2 with him and he spawn camps against my team, I will refuse to laugh at the jokes he makes the rest of the game.
Any other sources for this video? It will only work for people in the US.
i wish eddy murphy would go back to doing stand up comedy.
i completley pissed myself watching both delerious and RAW, and some of his earlier acts.
ive watched it god knows how many times and that "im cooking burgers not a mother%$#$ng bronasourus burger, look at charlie over there with 3rd degree burns eating a %$#$ing frank." never gets old.
"were going to need a little wood for this fire, go chop down that tree, were going to need a whole tree for this fire"
"your wifes a bigfoot isent she guss?"
What happened to Eddy Murphy, looks like it was a few bad films and Disney that messed up his career, not the usual route of drugs and backstreet favours.
I'm sure gettig caught with a shemale prostitute didn't help either. Lol.
I've always wondered if Franky Boyle was a fan of online gaming
I like Robin williams and think he is a brilliant actor. You either like him or hate him, my mum cant stand him and refuses to watch anything he is in. Whereas myself and my dad will watch anything he is and some of his standup stuff is brilliant. Again though at the end of the day it is all down to personal taste.

Williams is a great, versatile actor. He can play the kiddy comedies or the adult comedies. He's also really good in dramas and amazing as a bad guy (see "Insomnia").
Or for his drama, watch Good Morning Vietnam, Awakenings, Good Will Hunting, Centennial man, What Dreams May come… and the list goes on. He is so much more than just a comedian, and deserves a lot of respect for the career he has worked hard at, whether or not he is your flavour.
I can see how some people wouldn't like him. Especially some of his movies, they can great on your nerves a bit. I've always enjoyed most of his stand up though. Especially his part on Golf.
But I think the bigger thing here to think about is not whether or not you like the actor/comedian, but that he is a 50+ year old Famous person who plays online video games.
It's promotion like that that helps get rid of the stereotype that video games are only for anti-social teenagers. It's a step in the right direction.
