Ben-DutkaLast year, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots had a profound impact on the game industry and is currently regarded as one of the best games of the current generation. In fact, many will say it is the best, and perhaps one of the top titles in history. But some of you long-time fans will recall the only competition MGS ever faced…it started back in the PS1 days, and the franchise's name was Syphon Filter .
While most won't say any one Syphon Filter entry was better than any MGS effort, most will also agree that the former series had a couple solid action/stealth installments. Furthermore, we've seen a few more quality titles on the PSP, which is why we're excited to hear about the possibility of Syphon Filter 5 for next-gen consoles. It's a popular rumor around the 'Net right now, spurred forward by a recent Sony Bend job posting for a PlayStation 3 developer, and a listing for "Syphon Filter 5 – (Facial Mo-cap) – PlayStation 3" on the PCB Production page (thanks, Gamer Blorge ). It seems fairly straightforward and obvious, doesn't it? Of course, we can't confirm anything until we see an official press release in our inbox, but in the meantime, we're certainly allowed to speculate. And in speculating, we can give odds…hence, we're willing to say there's about a 95% chance that Syphon Filter is headed to – at the very least – the PlayStation 3 at some point. The only real question we have is, when?
And no, we're not about to wonder if Syphon Filter 5 can match up to MGS4; we find it highly unlikely, although we would have high hopes for a new Syphon Filter . Besides, we do need more stealth-based games, don't you think? Bring on Splinter Cell: Conviction , too! Here's hoping that one arrives for the PS3…

I love Syphon Filter. Well, I love SF1, SF2, and SF The Omega Strain. I played TOS for hundreds of hours just because of its co-op. I hope SF5 is coming and I hope it has co-op. Stealth levels = single player only. Action levels = up to 4 player co-op. Perfect.
I would have to say i actually preferred this game over metal gear solid

I didn't mind this game, but it always felt kind of klunky to me, I had a friend who loved it. Would be neat to see it on the PS3.

i played both syphon filter on PSP and they are amazing. heres hoping theres one for the PS3

BEN, i have been clamoring for a syphon filter game. GOD! i really enjoyed syphon filter 2 on ps1, till date i still prefere it to so many next-gen game.
who remebers CHANCE? lol, meh i love syphon filter 1,2 and 3 only.
but but, in my opinion they lost focus on all the ps2 installments, i was like huh? how could they possible do this to GABE? i disliked all of them with great intensity.
i wish they could remake sp2.
i jsut hope if it's a new installment, it shouldn't be wack like logan's shadow or omegan strain.

The James Bond games also got into the mix…great times.
Anyway hope they make it epic like the first one. We'll see
well hype like this brings old games to me. If it weren't for hype, i would've missed out on MGS4 and LBP. two great games. and then if this SF5 can compare to mgs4, i'll buy it. i still think MGS4 is the best title this gen. even before kz2.
talking of hype showing me new sequels to old games; i can name another game i am going to buy due to hype. GOW3. just saw a trailer. OMG!!
Anxious to hear an official announcement and see some footage. This is one of the few games i've really been waiting for. I love syphon Filter. I have always liked and enjoyed Syphon Filter games way more than MGS games. Syphon Filter 5 will more than likely be better to me and for me. I can't wait to see what they do with the franchise. Here's hoping it gets the epic treatment it deserves.
Great news! I've always been a fan of the Syphon Filter series. Just recently tried the demos for the 2 PSP games, and I definitely enjoyed them. Just purchased one of them a few days ago.
I actually have a quick question though. Ben maybe you might know, or someone else out there might. On the PSN store, how come Syphon Filter 2 is NOT available? SF1 and SF3 are, but SF2 is missing… any idea why that might be?? I never owned the PSOne games, and now that they're on the PSN store, I'd like to get them…. but kinda bummed that the second game isn't up for download…
As we all know sony will be spending top dollars for this game. So that mean more better quality.
Yes. This is great news if Syphon Filter comes to the PS3. My favorite PSP games are the 2 SF games and GoWCoO.
Dark Mirror could hold up as one of the best shooters I've ever played on any console. Great story.

New IPs are great, but it is the old franchises we loved on the PS1/PS2 (GOW, TM, GT, Syphon Filter) that will make people buy the PS3.
The Syphon Filter for PSP was my second favorite game for it online and it was my favorite regarding story. The second was also good but not as good. Can't wait to play this on PS3.
Wow, this is great news… sure hope the rumors are true. I also wish Syphon Filter 2 would get released on PSN. For some strange reason, Sony released the first and third installments, but, to my mind, SP2 was the best. Here's hoping they correct the error of their ways…

It's not that I didn't enjoy MGS1&2 mind you, but Itruly enjoyed SF1&2 way more than I did with MGS1&2.
I actually wound up playing SF1&2 straight through, but while playing MGS1&2, I'd wind up playing both for a short while, then stop, go back later, then stop.
I want to know what took them so long to think about putting SF on the PS3. A PS3 version should have been released a year ago. If this is true, Sony would have one heck of an exclusive lineup of action games with MGS, R2, KZ2 and SF5! That would be like the dream team of video games.

Hell Yeah Omega Strain was CRAZY!!Customization and Co-op was great,they can't go wrong with another one of those.I can't wait to hear about this officially.
