EA Snags Bourne Via 10-Year Deal

The shuffling of high-profile franchise licenses continues in the video game industry: three years ago, EA held the rights to James Bond and Vivendi had begun work on its first Bourne-related title after managing to secure the Robert Ludlum estate license. In 2006, Activision took Bond away from EA, then Activision merged with Vivendi and dropped Ludlum after The Bourne Conspiracy failed to become a sales success. So, the next step in the saga?

According to Variety, EA has picked up the Ludlum license thanks to a fresh new 10-year deal. Evidently, they've already started developing their first Bourne game, which is slated to launch some time during summer 2010. Considering the fourth movie has a similar release time frame, this shouldn't surprise anyone. Ludlum estate CEO Jeffrey Weiner said that EA was their "first choice" and they feel they're in a "much better position" thanks to EA's talent and resources. Added independent agent Keith Boesky:

"EA came in the strongest, had the best take on the property, and they know how to grow the IP and have unquestioned worldwide market reach. We're dealing with grown ups now."

…well, we're not entirely sure what that last statement means exactly, but we can guess. Conspiracy really wasn't a bad game; it just wasn't quite good enough to prompt solid sales, and we're hoping that EA can take the next step. It would also help a great deal if they could somehow land Matt Damon's actual likeness and voice, which has been conspicuously missing. We'll let you know if any new info comes our way.

Bourne is fresh and has places to go, Bond has had like 20 movies and Craig is a horrible Bond. No game will beat Goldeneye in that franchise and the movies should be put to bed.

World I agree with you on alot of things but on this I gotta say are you nuts!?! Craig is a great Bond..Im no Bond expert or anything but I got so sick of the smarmy, fake Pierce Brosnan. I enjoy the new tough rough Bond image much more.

man are you a retard!!! Craig Daniels is exactly what the Bond series need. theres no more goody two shoes Bond image, and no Bank Alexander your not the only one who like the now Bond.
I hate the fact that the game wasnt acknowledged it kinda got the same cold shoulder COD:W@W got. it was made with the COD 4 engine so Quantum of Solace should have gotten some more attention.

Darkness, it's Daniel Craig, and he's a bad bond because he looked like Gollum from Lord of the Rings and can't act his way out of a tire swing.

Lol! Personally, I think Jason Statham would've made a much better Bond. Maybe, too diesel, but he would've taken the action to a new level.

I was resistant to Daniel Craig until I finally saw Casino Royale. Great film, and Craig did wonderfully. I still think Clive Owen should have been Bond.

That being said, Pierce Brosnan was the greatest Bond ever, so screw all y'all…

Clive Owen would have been awesome, but I guess I'm outvoted on Craig. I admit defeat 🙂

Not necessarily. I'm certainly no "fan" of Craig's, I just admit he was much better than I thought he would be. Bottom line: I'm happy with him as Bond, but could have been much happier with someone else i.e. Clive Owen.

Clive Owen has this noble quality about him that he just can't shake from even in movies like Sin City (which was nauseatingly tacky, although I still think he's kool). Bond has to be classy, but he's too much of a whore-monger to be noble.

I think if your not into bond films you can like Craig Charle's 2 bond movies as your generic action flic and not be bothered who plays Bond. If you was to ask the older gen Bond fans, like my Dad, they're not that keen on the last 2 movies and Sean Connery is their best Bond.

10 year deal? Does this mean theres to be a Bourne games every year after the first release in 2010?

I think this is the first time that I'm ever gonna say this, but I have faith in EA. I liked the first bourne game, it was nothing amazing but it was entertaining. I think they can do a good job.
