Maybe it's long past time for Sony to drop the price of the PlayStation Vita. And retailers may be prepping early for that anticipated announcement.

For instance, there's a Target sale that has both the Wi-Fi and 3G models marked down to only $199; that's a full $100 savings for the 3G model, which is normally priced at $299. Then we've got Best Buy and Amazon selling both models for $199 as well, which could imply that Sony will indeed make an official announcement in a matter of hours. The PlayStation conference at Gamescom takes place today at 10 a.m. PST / 1 p.m. EST. Most are anticipating a launch date for the PS4 and this new evidence may also point toward a price cut for the Vita.
