Tooth and Tail: An RTS That Isn’t Hardcore

Releasing tomorrow looks to be a game that could be a good RTS alternative for us people that don’t have a lot time to commit to a hardcore RTS experience. That’s not to say that real stime strategy is considered hardcore but if you want to have any competence in something like Starcraft you have to put some time and effort into it. And not all of us have that kind of time.

Everything about Tooth and Tail is desgined to be a simplistic version of a real time strategy game. The controls are simplified and Pocketwatch games actually designed the game to use a controller which is something that usually doesn’t translate well for this particular genre. Matches can be done quickly and even the maps are randomly generated which means you’ll have to change strategy each game.

All this adds up to an RTS that caters more to a casual gamer. You won’t have to commit a ton of hours just to enjoy the game. I can say that this is appealing for someone like me who likes RTS games but as a family man doesn't have a ton of time to play them.

On top of all that is an interesting setting and a really cool art style. It takes place in an alternate time line in the late 19th century with animals instead of humans that are haveing their own industrialization and revolution. You’ll have several different kinds of critters you can pick for your army as you control the main “champion” similar to a MOBA. The exception being that you have some control of your army and you can also stay back an build defenses and you can go in and attack yourself. There is lots of room for different kinds strategies.
