PSXE Poll Update: Most Welcome More Openness In Uncharted 4

When Naughty Dog let the gameplay details fly during that Twitch livestream , one point became abundantly clear:

While we always knew the areas would be more open than in previous installments, perhaps we didn't understand just how much freedom we'll really have in the hugely anticipated Uncharted 4: A Thief's End . The inclusion of a jeep as a main vehicle is a very big deal, no?

So, we wanted to know what you thought about this larger open world and as it turns out, the majority of participants in our latest poll said they love the idea. Of course, we're guessing at least some of that trust and optimism stems from the fact that this is Naughty Dog we're talking about. It's hard to imagine them screwing this up, right? Still, the more open the world, the less of a focus we get on a primary narrative, and that could have a detrimental effect on the experience.

But it's doubtful.  This is Naughty Dog. Now, this week, after more news surfaced concerning the "PS4K" – or as we're now calling it, the "PS4 Neo" – we just want to know if you've changed your tune about the prospect of an upgraded console. The arrival of multiple new game systems appears inevitable at this point , and are you on board? Do you think on the PlayStation side it's more about VR and hence, you're not that interested/worried? Or, do you just think the whole thing sucks hardcore? Let us know.

I'm going to reserve judgment on Uncharted 4 until it releases. However, I've been pretty open about how changing the game that drastically would be a bad idea for the franchise. It could still be great but Uncharted is Uncharted for a reason. It's not freedom.

I was always against the idea of a new, upgraded version of a PS4. Unfortunately I almost feel obligated to buy one. I just hope Sony offers a trade in of some sort to existing consumers. One that's better than what Games top currently offers for PS4. I don't say this much because I understand how business works, but they owe it to console consumers. We don't buy consoles at $400 just to upgrade them in 2-3 years.

$400 every 2-3 years isn't a bad price at all. If so, might be time to address your spending/saving/buying power!!! 😉 Seriously though, it shouldn't be too hard to save a little each and every month for a dedicated update fund.

With that said…yea…I don't wanna spend $400 again so soon!!!…which I won't

Whether or not $400 is or isn't a lot to spend on just an *upgraded* console isn't really the point.

Never, ever has a console consumer had to fork out more money for an upgraded version of the same console in any generation. The point of consoles was always to get a dedicated machine we knew would last consumers 5, maybe more years.

You yourself said you didn't want to spend $400 so soon. That was my point. My spending/saving/buying habits aside.

Gonna buy the Neo but not this year after the problem I had with a Wii (the first models couldn't run double layered discs, so yes Smash Bros Brawl didn't work on my Wii) I rarely buy a new console when it releases, 2017 Black Friday gonna be the day I get a Neo.

I waited until Christmas 2015 to get a PS4 – I'll probably wait until at least Christmas 2017 for a Neo, maybe longer. It all depends.

How long after they release the new console will they simply stop making the original-spec PS4? It's almost certainly going to be a "budget" console right away, and the used market will probably get a glut that might push prices down. Once they stop selling it, will they continue to force game makers to support it? I fear for the non-Neo PS4.
