Is RAGE Getting Enough Attention?

The world has gone Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3 crazy. The games aren't out for about a month and yet, they dominate headlines.

But other highly anticipated titles, like Batman: Arkham City , The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim , Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception , Gears of War 3 , and Assassin's Creed: Revelations do manage to gain significant traction on a daily basis. It isn't too hard to find lots of articles based on these titles. And while there are indeed plenty of pieces with "RAGE" in the headline, it seems almost…downplayed.

I'm wondering if various factors are having an impact on the hype for id Software's newest game. First, let's start with the developers; it's their first production since 2004 and their claims to fame include names like Quake and DOOM . Iconic titles in this industry, yes, but also old . Unfortunately, with casual gamers and younger participants helping to push the industry forward, older franchises tend to fall on deaf ears. It's why we – and others – often worry about the upcoming Twisted Metal .

But also, military-based shooters definitely seem to be the norm these days. Shooters with fantastical concepts like RAGE that also infuse a bit of RPG-like depth may require too much time and dedication. Those who just want to run around and shoot things may be turned off by such a game. Then again, if we want to be optimistic, it's perhaps most similar to Borderlands , which did just fine on the sales charts. Still, I can't help but wonder why RAGE isn't getting a lot more attention. Can BF3 and MW3 really grab the entire spotlight?

Well, whatever. I'm goin' back to play more RAGE . There's a reason I'm doing that.
