Rockstar is performing some maintenance; it started tonight at 9 p.m. EDT and will continue through Thursday, January 16. However, the good news is that GTAO should return to normal within 24 hours, as the developer indicated on its website .
They didn't explain why this maintenance was necessary; perhaps it's just for general stability purposes. GTAO had some significant problems when the multiplayer component for GTAV first launched at the end of October. Rockstar worked hard to fix things, though, and lately, playing online has been relatively painless. Let's just hope that with each new update and maintenance session, GTAO becomes that much more reliable.
