Whenever you change things up a little and introduce something new, your fans might just rebel.
And maybe that's part of the reason developer Insomniac Games says they're always "terrified" about unveiling a new IP. In speaking to NowGamer , creative director Brian Allgeier said the recently revealed Fuse prompted much trepidation among the team.
"I think we’re pretty much terrified whenever we reveal a new game concept. Whether it be stylised and cartoony or more grounded and fantastic, it’s happened with every game we’ve worked on. You never know how people are going to react."
I think people were a little surprised when they first saw Resistance: Fall of Man . We were all like, "Wait, that's from the Ratchet & Clank guys?!" Allgeier says the studio "agonized over changing Overstrike into Fuse ," and they were concerned that the gaming public wouldn't think too highly about the shift in style and concept. Many seemed to like it, though.
Added Allgeier:
"Any time you make a big change like that, it’s going to create waves. Ultimately you have to do what’s right for the game. You have to make a lot of tough decisions. You have to assess everything, you know? We get feedback from ourselves, company-wide usability tests where we get feedback from people and ultimately we have to make a decision, and it’s tough."
We can certainly appreciate that. The only thing left is for Insomniac to do what they do best: Deliver a great game. And with Fuse , they're gonna have to make it stand out a little… For more info and gameplay details, check out our recent preview .
