Shadow Fall Comes In At 50GB…And You Still Want Digital?

Hope you've got a fast Internet service. And you might want to consider upgrading that hard drive like…immediately.

Well, that's if you plan on getting most of your games digitally in the new generation, or you plan on putting a bunch of extra content or other media (such as movies) on the PlayStation 4 HDD. During a recent Eurogamer interview with Sony UK managing director Fergal Gara, we find out that the digital download size of Killzone: Shadow Fall registers at a whopping 50GB.

" First of all, [digital] is definitely going to grow as a means of consumption. And there are big innovations in the PS4 to make it more attractive and more easy gamer wise to want to download. The Play as you Download functionality, for example, means you don't need the whole file before you go. This is a little bit counterbalanced by the fact the files themselves are getting bloody big. Killzone: Shadow Fall is an uber file–I think it's cracking on for 50GB. It looks it, too, when you see it. "

Yes, the Play as you Download feature will definitely be important, considering how long it will take to actually download 50 gigs. Gara added that the PSN has gone through a series of upgrades, but also added that digital delivery of games isn't a perfect science. In fact, he said the file version needs to go through "additional QA and additional testing." And yet, most see digital consumption as the wave of the future.

And it probably is. But are you really telling me that people are so unbelievably lazy that they'll sit there and wait for 50GB to download rather than just driving to the nearest store and picking up the game? I'd get it if the digital file was significantly cheaper but of course, it isn't. I guess not everyone lives really close to a place that sells video games, but neither does everyone have an Internet connection that would even make this feasible. No wonder Sony didn't want to do an all-downloadable games console, as some people believed they might…
