To be fair, I definitely want Killzone: Shadow Fall . Despite my waning interest in FPSs these days, that game does look freakin' awesome.
But I find myself wishing that my most anticipated PlayStation 4 launch title wasn't a first-person shooter. Does anyone else feel this way?
Sony tried to say they showed off Knack first at the PlayStation Meeting to prove that the PS4 was about more than just shooters. But the bottom line is that the new Killzone is by far and away the most anticipated launch title, and certainly tops on Sony's marketing agenda for the fall. Perhaps there's no avoiding it, given the gigantic popularity of Call of Duty and the continued love affair the majority of gamers seem to have with shooters.
And while I like a good shooter just as much as the next guy, I've found myself growing tired of them recently. And I'm really hoping that inFamous: Second Son gets announced as a PS4 launch title, because that will suddenly become #1 on my next-gen software priority list. For the record, I'm only counting next-gen exclusives in this scenario; I'm not talking about cross-generational titles like Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and Watch Dogs . When I look at a new piece of hardware, I want to see games that were specifically designed only for that new machine.
On top of which, there's a part of me that wanted to see Sony go a different direction right off the bat. Wouldn't it have been something special to see a grand PS4 RPG in the launch lineup? I mean, who knows, maybe that will still happen. But leading into E3 and the rest of the year, there's no doubt that a first-person shooter heads the PS4 hype train. To be honest, I kinda wish it was any other genre.
