The rumors that a new Oddworld game is in the works have spread fast and far, but now we know for sure: such a project definitely exists.
It's easy to spot our ol' buddy Abe over at the site for Gravity Crash developers, Just Add Water , and they have confirmed that Oddworld will soon return. According to a press release, they say that "it's with a huge amount of pride that we can announce that for the past 12 months, we have been working extremely closely with the fantastic people at Oddworld Inhabitants." They don't really give us any specific details – we're not even sure if we're looking at a downloadable title for the PSN or a full game for the PS3 – but at least we know it's on the way. And besides, they say we'll get more info in the "coming weeks," so we're perfectly wiling to wait. Said Just Add Water Managing Director Stewart Gilray:
"To work with the team at Oddworld has been amazing; being able to tap the minds of Lorne Lanning, Sherry McKenna and others has been fantastic. It’s almost symbiotic in that when something moves forward on any of the projects we just start chatting about new items, or what if we do this,” Gilray continued. “We’re all extremely excited to breathe life into the Oddworld universe and indeed to let it breathe life into us."
In all honesty, I hope they bring back more of the adventure/puzzle elements we had with the first few titles. When it went to the Xbox, it turned into a 3D action/platformer and really, I don't think it was anywhere near as impressive. The original title for the PlayStation is still one of the most respected games of that console's library, and there's a darn good reason for that.
