Tokyo Game Show Sets New Records

In terms of sheer attendance numbers, the Tokyo Game Show is the biggest industry event in the world.

And this year, TGS has once again broken its own record for visitors: According to the Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association (CESA), TGS 2012 brought in 223,753 interested fans, a small rise of 1,085 when compared to last year.

There were 209 companies exhibiting from 19 different countries at the show, and there was a marked focus on the explosion of mobile and social gaming. The Asian territories had quite a few representatives as well; CESA says speakers from China, South Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and of course, Japan, were on hand to discuss the future of the video game industry. Next year, TGS will take place between September 19 and 22 at Makuhari Minesse. If you'd like to go, just be prepared to see a lot of people milling about.

This is all despite the somewhat lackluster presentations by the heavy hitters in the industry, with the possible exception of Nintendo and their new Wii U. Besides the new PS3 models, Sony didn't have much to say. …will the PS4 be the focal point next year?
