Ben-DutkaWant to pretty up your PlayStation 4?
As revealed over at the PlayStation Blog , Sony will release Limited Edition faceplates for their flagship console.
This initiative is code-named Project SkyLight for some reason and it'll start off with faceplates for LittleBigPlanet 3 and The Order: 1886 . They will retail for $25 each; Sony says there will be more options when the initiative rolls out in full. They're going to ask gamers which faceplate themes they'd like to see, but bear in mind that all faceplates will be made in very limited quantities. Hence, if you ever see one you really want, you had best pounce.
This is nice and all but where are our designer colors? Isn't everyone tired of black by now?
Nope black is the theme of my entertainment center. Though having the choice would be nice.
If I had to choose between any color – if many were available – I would choose either black or white. So no I'm not tired of black and I've had the choice between the two already. If I were eager enough I'd try and get that 20th anniversary edition however the black is great so… Black is neutral and looks great anywhere.
Faceplates are cool but they would probably be like themes to me where I want to change them often and for $25 bucks I'd rather just not buy any. Besides it's not like I stare at my PS4 while playing, I'm looking at the television. 😉

Problem is that with this style of faceplate it has to be standing up and facing out in a way that I doubt very many people have their ps4 displayed that way.
Takes up a lot of height space that way which is usually limited on a media center.
I'd take a nice dark coloured Bloodborne faceplate.
I still waiting for pink or rainbow colored ps4…
You already missed out on the Rainbow one this site even had a story on it. It was a special one off for some, I think Swedish, LGBT charity.
Over priced and tacky imo.
I dont see how I'd get tired of black. Unless I'm looking into buying a second console, I can't see myself picking anything other than white or black for primary use.
Besides, there are always skins. The ps4 makes it easy to apply them so therefore its as good as you make it to be.
Well there is the limited edition ps4 colored like the original PS coming out soon

why just faceplates?
why not whole custom consoles with custom boot sounds and dashboard themes?
you know, like a little someone has been doing, for oh just a freaking decade!
Japan gets custom Playstations ALL the time you should see how kickass some of the limited edition PS3's and Vita's are over there, as for custom boot sounds and dashboards have you not seen the recently added PS4 themes?
Blame the US consumers for convincing Sony that off-colour and fancy limited edition consoles aren't big sellers for the Western Market.
My entertainment center is black, as is my PS4 and X1. There's no need to break up the current color scheme with a faceplate, especially since I probably wouldn't see it all that much.
It is cool, however, that they'll have the options to change things up for those who wish to do so.
Need ability to Personalize with any digital photo.
There are plenty of sites that sell custom console skins that allow you to do that.

lbp, really? the game wasnt even all that, since MM didnt work on it, i didnt even feel like it was their game. as for the graphics it felt like a hd remake of the original lbp lol, there was nothing great about it, i remember playing lbp for the first time and being amazed at everything. as for the order…well the game looks badass but im not keeping my hopes up.
besides my ps4 is white so i need something to match. a destiny one would be amazing as thats the bundle i have.
If anything I just want a faceplate with the same texture as the rest of the console,. I had the material of the faceplate, it just gets marked so easily – like the Wii-U. But as designs they're fat to flashy for me, I'd want just an elegant game logo on a plain bs drop – like the Ground Zeroes one if anyone's seen them.
Considering my PS3 still rocks a GT5 faceplate, I will hold off until the PS4 does the same.
I have the same faceplate. I like to put something behind the ps3 logo on the face plate so that the logo sticks out. Like a tissue out something.
Not worth the price as compared to Tokyo released Yakuza limited Edition which is 100% faceplate with the controllers
