No Competitive Multiplayer For Either New Assassin’s Creed

Hope you didn't have a strong connection to the competitive multiplayer in Assassin's Creed .

We knew that the upcoming Assassin's Creed: Unity wouldn't have competitive multiplayer modes, and now we hear from Joystiq that the other series entry, Rogue , won't have any such modes, either.

In fact, Rogue won't feature multiplayer modes at all, while Unity will offer four-player co-op. The reason for this?

"With Assassin's Creed Unity, the pillars of the franchise have evolved thanks to the potential of new-generation consoles. With that evolution, we wanted to bring a new type of multiplayer experience, which was asked for by fans and which we wanted to explore for a long time: cooperative gameplay.

Our aim was to have a seamless single-to-multi experience: This is why we are not opposing single player and co-op; we have ancestral missions dealing with Arno's story and Brotherhood missions dealing with Arno's duties towards the Brotherhood."

Multiplayer first appeared in the franchise in 2010's Brotherhood and has been a feature in each entry since. Well, no matter. Nobody bought these games for the multiplayer component, anyway.

I might actually platinum another Assassin's Creed!!!

I've never touched MP in any AC game. Anybody else?

I did, don't ever try it. Life would have been better off without it.

Hahahahaha.

That was my first thought when I realized neither game had multiplayer.

I actually platinumed ACIII, and am in the process of getting the MP trophies for ACIV. They are just so darn tedious, and the MP is SO boring.

I've done Revelations once and Black Flag once. I managed to finish third out of ten in the Black Flag session but I've never felt the need to go back. If I ever got an overwhelming desire to Platinum the thing but that's about the only thing that would do it.

Brotherhood had a few programming problems that could be frustrating, and some people would take advantage of them unfairly. Revelations was a step up.

Both were fun and relatively well done. No idea what the above hate is about. It was a fresh new way of playing multiplayer that didn't include shooting people as the primary way of doing things. You could shoot someone with the single bullet you have, but unless you were clever with it, you wouldn't score many points for your team. You had to be clever and use your perks well. I liked it a lot.

Never played AC4.

ACIV not including ship-to-ship multiplayer combat was a HUGE mistake.

I would have jumped on it months ago if they did.

About damn time. So glad to hear this. Hopefully the next God of War follows suit.Unity is and will be the far better AC game this year.Although I will be getting both.I'm sure Rogue will be excellent too.But I hate the fact you play as a Templar. But I have to experience how it closes The Kenway Trilogy.Hopefully Connor returns in another AC game?
Their saying Arno may be the next Ezio! One can only hope! 😉

Really glad to see this.

The MP was just getting bland and boring. There isn't really much else they could do with it now. They tried it, it wasn't that popular, and ended up being filled with people just running around going crazy, not actually trying to stealth at all.

Back to the ACII days!!!

Hopefully, this might be part of a trend of publishers realizing that you don't HAVE to include multiplayer. Either that or experimenting with things like drop-in/drop-out co-op where the gameplay smartly re-balances on the fly or social features where you see how well your friends have done in a certain title e.g. Sleeping Dogs. All-in-all though, the fact that Rogue will be resolutely single-player actually makes me more willing to try it, Templar or no Templar.

I have yet to play any game from this series. I might start out with this one because I enjoy co-op so much (especially in Dark Souls). Definitely won't buy it on day 1 because Ubisoft games tend to get price cuts or sales even a month or two in.

I'd start from the first one. There's a lot of backstory and context that you might not understand if you don't.

That's pretty funny.

Just that this is the 7th sequential game in the series and you still haven't played it 😀

Not a bad thing, just funny.

Also, I don't REALLLLLLLY think you NEED to play the games to understand, you just need to know a few things:

Who the following people are: Altair, Ezio Auditore, Desmond, and Minerva.
What the following things are: the Animus, Templars, Assassins, Abstergo Industries/Entertainment, the precursor race, and the pieces of Eden.

Just go to an Assassins Creed wiki and search for those things. Alternatively if you don't mind reading you can just go to the wiki and read the entire history of the franchise.
