Was a single-player campaign ever a consideration for DICE in making Star Wars: Battlefront ?
Short answer: Nope.
Speaking during a recent GameSpot interview , DICE general manager Patric Bach was asked if the lack of a campaign was a consequence of needing to launch prior to the upcoming "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens" film.
Bach first admits that the movie's release "did influence decisions early on" but as for a single-player quest:
"To be honest, single-player was never in the plan. It was never the concept."
The concept for us was always that we wanted players to re-live the battles. We wanted them to play the battles from the original movies. And DICE, coming from its Battlefield background, knows how to make awesome battles in that context."
That's not a really surprising stance, and it's probably going to be a great experience for "Star Wars" fans. When it comes to first-person shooters these days, the campaign is almost entirely superfluous unless you've designed a game with single-player at the core (and that doesn't happen much anymore, at least in regards to FPSs).
Multiplayer is king.

I could live without a single-player campaign since the original didn't have one but no galactic conquest? No instant action? No spaceship battles? No clone wars? Screw you, DICE and EA! I'll pick this game up when it's cheap.

Not an issue for me, as I don't remember there being a true "campaign" in the first 2 SW:BF games. I guess playing the battles in order could count, but story was never the emphasis! They were always a fun shooter that my roommate and I play for hours!
The "bombshell" of there being no single player campaign doesn't change my expectations one bit. Kinda sad that there won't be space battles though. -

This is ridiculous to be honest. Fans of Star Wars in general thought there would be a campaign. More importantly fans of Battlefront want a campaign. This is a quick cash grab in my opinion. It's a quick and easy way to wrap BF in Star Wars lore.
No one is questioning if it will be good. It probably will. What's at question is remarks like this "The concept for us was always that we wanted players to re-live the battles. It's a mp game. You are not re-creating any battles from the movies. You are simply creating a world for players to drop into. Period. Their battlefield background remark says it all. Sorry not the right direction. What a joke.

And to think that when I heard that EA would be making Star Wars games, there was a brief moment there when I held out a tiny glimmer of hope they might actually be worth playing. I'll never make that mistake with any EA game ever again.
This "sequels and shooters and sequels of shooters" industry really holds very little of interest for me anymore. That's fine though, I've rediscovered my guitar playing which I find much more rewarding anyway. I'll continue playing Skyrim one night every week or two, and in January when the day one purchasers / beta testers have finished their job, perhaps pick up Fallout 4.

Star Wars has cool battle scenes but I think Star Wars is more than that, ok there's a "war" in the franchise's name but what about the story? What about the cool and badass characters?
So yea, I'm really shocked they didn't include a story mode.

But that was when Lucas was still calling the shots and making sure the fans played games that were more than glorified Star Wars playsets to roam around in. Games that were essentially expanding the canon featured in the movies. Those days are gone now.
Its all business. I'm reading that EA hopes to make 600 million in revenue from Battlefront.
And one way to achieve that goal, is by making sure that there is only ONE Star Wars game released around the time SW: Episode VII comes out. Fans will be hyped for the movie and they'll search around looking to play a SW game. And Battlefront will be it.
There won't even be the alternative of playing a freakin' LEGO The Force Awakens game. At least not until after EA makes those 600 million bucks.
EA already confirmed that post launch, they expect to make some more cash with Battlefront through micro-transactions and dlc.
And to think this EA/Disney deal will last at least 10 years. Holy monopoly Batman!

Well, my interest in the game was waning anyways, since they never mentioned a story mode or anything, but this puts the last nail in the coffin, this will definitely be a PASS for me. Not even going to have a Collector's Edition w/ some cool statue or anything… Freaking EA…
