11 Minutes Of Yakuza 6 Gameplay: Many Baddies Get Smacked

Okay, so the quality isn't that great. But it's 11 minutes of gameplay, so that's worth seeing. For something slicker, you can always check out one of the early trailers .

Here, Gematsu captures the gameplay as shown off by series director Toshihiro Nagoshi, and there's lots of brawling going on. Fans will also notice that we're seeing more on-screen enemies than we've ever seen before, which gives the fighting extra scope and urgency. And of course, enduring protagonist Kazuma Kiryu won't always be facing down a bunch of foes by himself; his friends are along to help this time around.

If you're in Japan and you picked up Yakuza Kiwami (the remake of the original title), today you'll be treated to a demo of Yakuza 6 . Unfortunately, for the time being, both games are only confirmed for the Land of the Rising Sun, so American and European gamers will just have to be patient. Patience is a definite virtue for Yakuza followers outside of Japan, that's for damn sure.

If you've still got a PS3, though, you should definitely snag Yakuza 5 , which finally came our way in December 2015, three years after it first launched in Japan.

New Yakuza 6 Trailer Showcases Some Brutal Combat

We knew it was coming and now we've got a special reveal trailer for the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive.

Sega has released a new Yakuza 6 video (see it below) featuring protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, and it proves he's nobody to be trifled with.

It mostly shows off slo-mo footage of Kiryu beating on a mob boss, but we also get a peek at some regular gameplay where the main character appears to be negotiating some rooftops. This game was confirmed at the Tokyo Game Show in September, along with the announcement of an original remake for PS4. After a delay, Yakuza 5 finally landed on North American PS3s this month, and has since received solid critical acclaim . But there was a three-year gap between the Japanese and North American releases.

Let's just hope Yakuza 6 doesn't take that long to release in Western territories.

Yakuza 6 In The Works, Original Remake Confirmed For January

Of course, the big question is going to be the same for both projects: Will they be released in North America and Europe?

Unfortunately, there's no way of knowing right now but at least the games are in the works:

During Sony's TGS 2015 presentation, Sega announced two new Yakuza projects for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. The first is called Yakuza: Kiwami and it's basically a remake of the original PS2 title; it'll boast updated graphics and a brand new scenario and system. This will be available on January 21, 2016 in Japan for both PS3 and PS4. Again, here's hoping it'll eventually find its way west.

The second project is a full-fledged sequel: Yakuza 6 is in the works for PS4 and it currently has a tentative Fall 2016 Japanese date. Just be patient because bringing this series to the U.S. can take a while, as fans well know. Heck, we're just now getting Yakuza 5 , which launched in Japan back in 2012.

Yakuza Ishin Revealed For PS4, Will It Come To The West?

Sega has said they don't intend to bring Yakuza 5 to North America or Europe. Does that mean the newly unveiled entry for the PlayStation 4 won't be localized, either?

It was revealed earlier that Yakuza Ishin is headed to Sony's new console some time next year. There weren't many details to go along with it, besides the debut trailer you see below.

The question is, will Sega take the plunge and give gamers in the West a chance to play this game? Yakuza has always been a well-received franchise, but localization has taken quite some time for each entry. Then again, if this Yakuza Ishin is a quality title, it might be wanted by a great many new PS4 owners. Bolstering one's library is always a top priority with a new piece of hardware, right? Would you buy a fresh Yakuza offering on the PS4 if it was good?

Thanks, Zak!
