Sony Is Aware Of Insomniac Games Hacking

Earlier this week, reports surfaced that Rhysida, a ransomware group, infiltrated Insomniac Games and is currently feeling around for buyers for select private information. The info it has includes stuff about the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine and “private staff information,” such as passport scans. Luckily, it already knows and is investigating.

IGN reports the hacking group is seeking 50 BTC (or two million) to be paid in seven days, or it will release the stolen info. In a statement to the publication, Sony expressed that it’s already working on investigating the matter and doesn’t believe any other divisions have been affected.

Marvel’s Wolverine Launches In 2025

Some more small details have come forward about the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine, including its setting and potential launch year. This is just a rumor, but it’s better than nothing.

Leaker Daniel Richtman alleged on his Patreon (via GamingBolt) that the game is planning on launching in 2025 and will feature the fictional Marvel city of Mandripoor as its setpiece. It isn’t clear if the game is solely housed in the fictional Southeast Asia city, but the leak did point to the game not being a full open world like Spider-Man or its recently released sequel.

Insomniac Games had ramped up production of the game following Spider-Man 2’s launch. A previous leak from Jeff Grubb alleged it would be out next year but also put a little asterisk beside it, noting it could be delayed internally. If true, this new leak fits in nicely with the timeline.

What do you think? Are you excited about Marvel’s Wolverine? Are you just as confused as we are about what kind of game it will be? Let us know below!

Marvel’s Wolverine Is In The Same Universe As Spider-Man

Wolverine

A predictable but essential detail has been uncovered about the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine. The game was initially announced in September 2021 alongside Spider-Man 2, but largely it remained in the background as Insomniac Games was already well into development of the iconic webslinger’s sequel at the time. Now, its production is supposedly ramped up.

Speaking with Kinda Funny Games (via VGC), Bryan Intihar spilled the beans that the upcoming superhero game is set in the same universe. Considering the naming convention and tradition when it comes to Marvel games, it’s not too shocking. We come to expect these games by the same developer to be part of the same universe, but actually getting confirmation ahead of a gameplay reveal isn’t as common.

It’s still up in the air what kind of game Wolverine will be — he can’t swing from rooftop to rooftop, nor can he crawl on walls for an effective stealth strategy. Whatever it is, Intihar sure has a great deal of hope. He even said it has an “emotional narrative and cutting-edge gameplay.”

Wolverine Ramps Up Production

Wolverine

Marvel’s Wolverine appears to be ramping up production at Insomniac Games as Spider-Man 2’s release draws ever closer. It was a bold choice to reveal another superhero game back in 2021, only to let it fall into darkness for actual years.

Animator Tommy Mann revealed on X that not only is he excited for people to play the web-slinger’s latest romp, but also that he’s moved onto another Insomniac project — Wolverine. To be clear, we know next to nothing about what to expect, it’s hard to say whether it’ll be more linear with a strong story or what.

We’ll have to wait and see and hope for an update likely at the top of the year.

Insomniac Games Revealed Spider-Man 2, Wolverine

Insomniac Games

Insomniac Games revealed two massive games for PlayStation Studios at the PlayStation showcase on September 9. Those two games are the heavily anticipated Spider-Man 2 and a standalone Wolverine game. The next few years for PlayStation, and in particular Insomniac, are looking bright.

Insomniac Games’ Wolverine and Spider-Man 2

At the PS Showcase, towards the end of the show, PlayStation Studios decided to reveal some hard-hitters. Insomniac’s two games were at the forefront of that other than God of War Ragnarok — Marvel’s Wolverine and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The first game shown was Wolverine. The atmosphere was gritty, with Wolverine sitting in a bar filled with beat up people. By the end, the iconic claws come out to play. The game is being directed by Brian Horton (creative director) and Cameron Christian (game director). That announcement alone was enough to build hype for the future of Insomniac. Little did we know, there was more.

After a brief yet detailed look at Gran Turismo 7, Spider-Man showed up. We see Spider-Man with iron spider abilities and Miles Morales using his Venom powers. Then out from the shadows, they reveal Venom lurking in the shadows voiced by the iconic Tony Todd. Todd is known mainly for his role as the Candyman. However, the voice used is more akin to his role as Zoom in the Flash TV series. A great reveal for the main antagonist.

Spider Man 2 is set for release at some point in 2023. Bryan Intihar (creative director) and Ryan Smith (game director) are returning to fulfil their roles. Both of these games look absolutely incredible and show the capabilities of those working at Insomniac as astounding as they work on these two blockbuster titles simultaneously.

Insomniac were successful with their comeback to the Ratchet and Clank series while also producing one of the best games of last year in Miles Morales. Therefore this new challenge seems more than plausible.

Wolverine and Spider Man 2 are sure to be great additions to Insomniac’s already amazing catalogue of games.
