Global Sales Tally Sees PS4 At 23M, Xbox One Shy Of 13M

As always, considering the source, you might want to take these results with a grain of salt.

But VGChartz has proven more reliable of late so perhaps these numbers aren't so far off.

According to the updated global sales tally for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Wii U, the PS4 not only has the lead, it has nearly doubled the lifetime sales of its closest competitor, Xbox One. This is as of May 2015:

PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 23,217,798

Xbox One Total Sales: 12,835,320

Wii U Total Sales: 9,727,909

Further, another chart shows how PS4 has easily beaten both other consoles every month since it launched. That's hugely significant as well but it's important to remember that Xbox One has emerged on top in the US several times this generation so far.

And chances are, if that's accurate, the gap will close this holiday season…perhaps only to see it widen again in 2016. And hey, maybe this is solid evidence as to why Activision opted to side with Sony for Destiny and Call of Duty . Makes perfect sense from a numbers standpoint.

PSXE Poll Update: Lords Of Shadow 2 Just Wasn’t That Good

The anticipated Castlevania: Lords of Shadow sequel didn't really impress the critics.

However, a lot of gamers said the game was unjustly criticized, which led to our most recent poll question: Do you think the title was unfairly judged?

A fair percentage did feel that way, but the majority said in fact, the game's "just not that good." That was our assessment as well , as the production fell significantly short in several areas. The stealth sections were poorly conceived of and implemented, and the modern-day atmosphere just didn't gel with our perception of the vaunted Castlevania franchise.

This week, there's been a lot of talk about the future of Nintendo and whether or not the Wii U will survive. What do you think? Will the current system stage a big comeback? Will the company produce another console that can challenge the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One? Or are they going to bow out of the console game completely? Let us know.

Vita Enjoys Third Biggest Week In Japan, Trounces Wii U

The PlayStation Vita has struggled since its launch, but it may be showing signs of life. Well, in Japan, at least.

According to a Yahoo! News report , Sony's portable got a big boost during the week ending June 30; it was actually the "third biggest smash of its life cycle so far."

This was due in part to the release of a game called Toukiden , which sold a surprising 127,000 units in its first week of availability. This allowed Vita sales to more than double, rising from just 14,000 to 34,000. The cool part is that the game in question wasn't expected to sell quite that well, especially with such a lack of marketing support. The Vita still can't beat the 3DS but it came close with that big week; Nintendo's handheld sold 45,000 when the Vita sold 34,000. Will there finally be some competition…?

As for the Wii U, it's floundering badly, selling only 5,800 that same week in question. Of course, Japan has proven to be a portable-loving market, as handhelds now own 74% of the total console market, which most certainly is not the case in the US. But anyway, wouldn't it be nice to see the Vita come up a bit? It's a darn fine system, ya know.
