Ubisoft Insists Watch Dogs Hasn’t Been Visually Downgraded

You may have heard: There's some footage floating around that hints at a scaled-back visual fidelity for the upcoming Watch Dogs .

Does this mean the hotly anticipated title won't look as good as it has in the past, in previous promo videos? And will we be able to accurately apply the "next-gen" label to it? Absolutely, so says Ubisoft.

The company was quick to respond to allegations that they were forced to tone down the graphical quality. Ubisoft Benelux PR and events manager Tess Vilyn addressed the situation through a series of updates on her Twitter page . Here's one:

"Of course it is not downgraded at all. It's a true next-gen game for sure…for sure.."

The controversy began when a certain GIF popped up in the NeoGAF forums . As you can see, it appears to show a significantly downgraded segment of the game. However, Vilyn insists that this didn't happen:

"Believe me the game is not downgraded. That would just be a bit ridiculous. I saw the game it looks incredible. It looks what a next gen should look like."

Watch Dogs is slated to launch on May 27 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. Guess we'll know then if what Vilyn says is true, or if the game had to suffer through a disappointing down-scaling.
