TGS 2011: Square Enix Reveals Final Fantasy X HD

No, it isn't Final Fantasy VII but damn…

After a bit of a lull during Sony's TGS 2011 press conference, they have unveiled something we didn't expect: high-definition versions of Final Fantasy X for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

If you ask the hardcore fans, FFX is one of the best installments in the franchise, and oh yes, it was the last turn-based title in the series, too. To have this in high-definition on either the PS3 or Vita is something awfully special, and if you missed out way back in 2001…well, you aren't a big Final Fantasy fan in the first place. But even if you did play and love it a decade ago, isn't it time to revisit? They didn't show any media for FFX on either the PS3 or Vita but it's enough to know it's coming.

In other Square Enix news from Sony's keynote, Final Fantasy Type-0 for the PSP will release in Japan on October 27, and the publisher also has two launch titles for Vita: Lord of Apocalypse (an action/RPG) and Army Corps of Hell . Details on both coming soon.

TGS 2011: 26 Vita Launch Titles, Over 100 By March

The majority of Sony's TGS 2011 press conference centered on the PlayStation Vita, but that's not a bad thing.

If you weren't in the audience, here's what you missed:

Firstly, the Vita will launch in Japan on December 17. The first 500,000 3G models will come with a data plan included and 100 free hours, and at the Tokyo Game Show, 31 games will be available to sample on 80 Vita units scattered around the show floor. That oughta be fun.

Secondly, Sony is coming heavily with the games. They will have no less than 26 titles for the Japanese launch, and over 100 should be available by March 2012. The launch lineup includes games like Uncharted: Golden Abyss , Wipeout 2048 , and Ninja Gaiden , and Japanese fans can pre-order the Vita as of October 15. With the specific mention of March, some are thinking that's when Sony's new portable will hit store shelves in North America and Europe.

Thirdly and lastly, Sony says they're considering special downloadable versions of UMD-only titles for the Vita. There's nothing official right now, but we expect to hear more news in the coming months. And that's that. The conference is over and I'm going to bed. Thanks to all for sticking with us; as always, we were one of the first to deliver all the major news within minutes of the stage announcements.

Catch y'all tomorrow.

Sony Bringing 18 Unannounced Vita Titles To TGS 2011

This year's Tokyo Game Show isn't far away, and Sony is poised to make a big splash.

They've revealed the list of games they'll be bringing to the event; there's a myriad of great PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 3 titles on tap. That includes games like Uncharted: Golden Abyss , Hot Shots Golf Next , and Disgaea 3 Return for the Vita, and Battlefield 3 , Final Fantasy XIII-2 , Dragon's Dogma , and Ninja Gaiden III for the PS3.

But even more interesting is the currently unannounced set of games they'll be showing: 3 for the PS3 and no less than 18 for the Vita. What could they be? Sony has often said that software is a top priority for their new portable device and clearly, they're sticking to that philosophy.

Ubisoft Helping Vita With 6 New Titles

All new hardware needs as many games as possible. And Ubisoft has signed on to give the PlayStation Vita a big boost.

The Assassin's Creed publisher has no less than six games in development for Sony's cutting-edge portable device. They say they're "taking full advantage of the power of the new handheld system," and the diverse lineup will feature both new IPs as well as fresh installments in established franchises. Check out what they've got on tap for the Vita:

Said Zeno Colaço, SCEE vice president of Publisher & Developer Relations:

"We're delighted with the support and innovative content Ubisoft are bringing to PS Vita. Great games are at the platform's heart and with some of Ubisoft's biggest and best brands coming to PS Vita, we are very excited to work with them in delivering the deepest gaming experience on the most powerful handheld entertainment system on the planet."

Both Asphalt and Dungeon Hunter Alliance will be playable at GamesCom this week, and we hope to learn more about all Ubisoft's Vita titles in due time. That AC entry ought to be interesting!
