It's always good to know exactly how much a product is going to cost in the long run, especially when we're talking about those pesky data plans.

We had heard unofficial information concerning AT&T's price plans for the 3G model of the PlayStation Vita in the US. AT&T is the exclusive 3G provider for Sony's nifty new portable.

Now, we have the official numbers : for 250MB of data, you'll pay $15 per month, while 2GB will cost you $25/month. Both plans operate on a month-by-month basis, which means you won't be forced into signing any contract for 3G Vita usage. You will also "have free access to more than 24,000 Wi-Fi hot spots nationwide."

In comparison to most 3G data plans, this seems pretty normal. The only question is clear- how many gamers are going to purchase this game-centric device and pay for a monthly data plan, when they may already have a data plan for their smartphone or tablet? It'll be a challenge for Sony, but we're certain gamers know what they want. …don't they?

As a side note, Sony has confirmed at the Consumer Electronics Show that the Vita has "sold" over 500,000 units in Japan.  We won't get into a debate over sold and shipped; let's just say that's a pretty good number, and implies that more Vitas were sold in the previous week than in week three.
