Capcom Wants To Ensure Resident Evil Village Succeeds

Resident Evil Village

It seems it’s not just fans who expect a lot from Resident Evil Village. Speaking with GamesIndustry, Capcom’s Antoine Molant lamented that their goal for the year is to make Village the most best-performing RE title out there.

“Our main ambition for this year, although there’s so much going on at the same time, is to make sure Resident Evil Village will be the best-performing Resident Evil title, both in terms of quality as well as business.”

The thought that the developer thinks so highly of the title is far from shocking – they are the developer who claims Village may very well be the best survival horror game ever, after all. Capcom even expects to sell a whopping 11 million units by 2025.

It’s very much possible the game will hit the mark that Capcom expects, but we’ll have to wait and see when the game launches across the board on May 7.

Resident Evil Village Is “Much Larger” Than Biohazard

Resident Evil Village

Resident Evil VII: Biohazard got a lot of people excited to see where the franchise would go from there. One thing that fans did notice, though, was its less than day-long runtime. That’s seemingly not something fans will have to worry about with Resident Evil Village.

According to Official PlayStation Magazine UK (via Game Infinitus), Village’s producer, Peter Fabiano, has remarked that it will be “much larger” than what was seen in VII.

“I’ll just say it’s much larger than what players experienced in Resident Evil VII: Biohazard.”

Not only that, but the game will also take advantage of some of the PS5’s special features, like its blazing-fast load times to almost eliminate loading screens altogether.

Resident Evil Village is launching on May 7, 2021.

Resident Evil Village May Still Launch On Current-Gen Platforms After All

Resident Evil Village

All hope isn’t lost as Capcom might continue to try and bring Resident Evil Village onto current-gen consoles. Earlier this year, fans learned the game wasn’t coming to current-generation platforms reportedly due to developmental problems.

Well, the developer might be trying to face it head-on and power through. During Capcom’s Tokyo Games Show presentation, it claimed it’s “looking into” how to bring Village onto current-generation platforms.

“While Resident Evil Village is being developed specifically for next-generation consoles and PC, we’re looking into delivering the experience on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well. We’re looking into it but we can’t make any promises, however we will do our best to bring a top-tier survival horror experience to current-generation consoles.”

Resident Evil Village takes place years after Resident Evil 7 and sees you take up the role of Ethan Winters once again. Lobbing you into a first-person perspective, it’s up to you to make your way through a monster-infested village.

Village is supposed to launch sometime in 2021.
