The top dogs aren't always the top dogs.

Well, teams like Naughty Dog, Rockstar and Bethesda always seem to produce amazing games. But even the most talented studios can have an off year, and we also see some emerging stars as the years roll on.

In your estimation, which developer has been the most surprising so far this generation? I mean this in a positive sense but you can also cite a team that you thought would impress you, but has fallen short. I want to mention CD Projekt Red for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt but that's only because I'm late to the party, having never played previous entries in the series. Fans will probably tell me this studio has always been awesome.

But I think Supergiant Games needs a nod. Their two titles, Transistor and Bastion were spectacular. They could become the absolute rockstars Thatgamecompany was last generation; give us a third amazing game and I'd say you qualify. Just because the games don't have massive budgets behind them doesn't make them any less impressive in my eyes.
