There were several top-notch trailers shown off during the 2013 Spike VGX Awards. Here are a few of our favorites.
The first is a sneak peek at some gameplay for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt , which could end up being one of the most advanced open-world games ever seen. To learn more about its potential, check out our in-depth preview if you haven't yet.
We don't get a lot of gameplay, but what we see is wicked impressive, and it gives us an idea of the game's immense size and scope. It makes us want to step out into the wilderness and become a legendary hero…like now.
Then comes what is arguably our most anticipated next-gen title, the Thief reboot. A new story trailer appeared at the VGX Awards and it suggests that in addition to captivating stealth gameplay, Thief will also feature a compelling narrative. It's nice to have some background and incentive before we attempt to steal something that is virtually un-stealable. And remember, we previewed this one as well.
Dying Light has all sorts of promise, as it blends good old-fashioned zombie hunting with an intense first-person view, a dose of free-running mechanics ala Mirror's Edge , and an intriguing day/night cycle that greatly affects the gameplay. During the VGX show, the Dead Island developer showed off plenty of footage, and it's right here. If the mechanics are right (and that's critical), this could be awesome!
South Park: The Stick of Truth has been delayed several times, but don't sleep on this one. In terms of fun factor, this could end up being an elite title. Fans of the show will love the hilarious VGX trailer!
Lastly, we just have to acknowledge Tim Schafer and Double Fine's new project, Broken Age . They've got some serious star talent for this title, including Elijah Wood as the voice of the main character. Anything Schafer does deserves the attention (and ultimately, the appreciation) of any avid gamer; he has produced some of the most wonderfully original games in history. And Broken Age looks to continue that trend of unique goodness.
