New Kickstarter Project: A Fan’s Dream From FFT Director

We'll probably never see a true Final Fantasy Tactics sequel. In fact, the entire strategy/RPG genre seems to be dying on consoles; you can really only find them in the digital and mobile space these days.

But that doesn't mean we can't help fund a project that might – at a stretch – reach the PlayStation Vita. Yasumi Matsuno ( Final Fantasy Tactics and Vagrant Story director) has launched a Kickstarter project for a fresh tactical RPG called Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians .

Scheduled for release in 2015, the game will center on a 77-year conflict between various characters and armies. There will be different episodes available and each will present the player with a new perspective; so, you might fight against a certain army in one episode, only to control that same army in the next chapter. Much like Tactics , this will be a class-based, turn-based RPG featuring 3D battlefields with a controllable camera. Classes include War Mage, Ballast Knight, Clergy, Pioneer, Polearm Knight and Noble. I just wanna know: Is there a Calculator…?

So far, 5,490 backers have contributed $222,157 of the project's $600,000 target. No matter what, the game will be released for iOS and Android devices, but if they hit that $600,000 mark, Playdek will deliver the game to PC, Mac and Windows phone versions. Stretch goals include bringing on more talent (Hitoshi Sakimoto, Alexander O. Smith and Joseph Reeder); if they can hit $1.8 million, we'll get a Vita version.

Okay, so the latter may not be likely, but the simple fact that Matsuno is making the closest thing to FFT2 that we'll ever see is enough for me.
