One of the most revered games of the generation is also one of the most popular.
According to a Twinfinite report , the acclaimed open-world RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has now shipped nearly 10 million copies.
This number came courtesy of developer CD Projekt Red's Adam Kasinski, and it was also noted that the franchise overall has passed the 20 million sold mark. And obviously, 2015's epic release was a very big deal:
"In these 20 million units sold, The Witcher 3 constitutes almost 10 million."
The last official sales update we had on the game came back in August, when we learned the game had sold 6 million copies, so the holiday season obviously had a very positive effect. Of course, it probably helped a lot that the game's first expansion – the excellent Hearts of Stone – released in October. The next expansion, Blood and Wine, which is supposed to deliver another 20 hours of gameplay, is scheduled to launch some time this year.
The Witcher 3 has earned accolades all over the place, including the GDC Awards and DICE Awards (leading the nomination charge for both), and don't forget that it was also our Game of the Year for 2015 . Can't wait for Blood and Wine!
