Japanese Spotlight: Nights of Azure

Not sure about whatever it is Final Fantasy XV is offering as an action JRPG? Here's something that might be more up your alley.

Nights of Azure is coming to PS4 here in the US at the end of March when the gaming season post-holidays is picking up.

From Tecmo-Koei we have the director of Fatal Frame and Deception IV, GUST studios of Atelier fame putting together a very Japanese adventure for those who have been starved. It is a darker story, one of two female heorines facing decisions that will test their missions and loyalties to one another.

The story takes place on an island where night is not a time to be abroad. The island is infested with azure blood demons. In Ruswal not many dare to venture out except the brave. One, Arnice, is a knight of great skill assisted by priestess Lilysee in their fight against the demon horde. As with all epic stories though, things won't be as simple as beating back the physical demons.

Look for giant weapons, a battle system instead of a button masher, hot girls, and high drama.

Dead Or Alive 5 Pushes 580,000 Copies In Only One Month

Dead or Alive 5 is a pretty damn good fighter in our estimation. Lotsa fun.

And gamers seem to have been swayed by the solid review scores, or perhaps a few were swayed by the…swaying. Well, whatever the reason, according to Siliconera citing a recent financial update from Tecmo Koei, DoA5 sold 580,000 units worldwide in only one month.

That really isn't too bad for a fighting game, especially when it had to go toe-to-toe with Tekken Tag Tournament 2 when it launched in September. As a little comparison, DoA4 sold around 700,000 copies in its first two months, so it seems the franchise hasn't lost its appeal. Although, we have to admit that it still caters mostly to the fighting aficionados. As for Tecmo, they posted a year-over-year rise of 26% in terms of operating income, so that's good news for them.

By the way, there's more DLC slated for DoA5 so get ready for more costumes! They're always fun.

Dynasty Warriors 7 Slashing Onto US Shelves In March

You may remember it wowing new PlayStation 2 owners nearly a decade ago and since that time, Dynasty Warriors has continued to thrive.

…well, okay, it thrives a lot better in Japan. At any rate, Tecmo Koei has confirmed North American release details for the latest entry, Dynasty Warriors 7 . It will not only support both PlayStation Move and 3D, it will boast awesome co-op action and plenty of that hack 'n slash combat fans of the series crave. It will release in the US on March 22 and three days later on the 25th in Europe. You can find more details on the expansive Story Mode at the game's Euro website ; we particularly like the part of most any character being able to wield most any weapon… Boasting over 60 total characters, there should be no shortage of options both on and off the battlefield and in truth, we're really hoping for the most fleshed-out and satisfying DW installment yet. Lastly, it should be mentioned that the international release won't be exclusive to the PS3; it'll be a multiplatform title in NA/Europe.

Yeah, this series has gotten a little stale and we've been begging for some upgrades and innovation. We opt to remain optimistic, though.
