PlayStation Beats Xbox As UK’s Primary Console, Survey Finds

PlayStation

Between the two major competitors, owners of the current-gen and even last-gen consoles are more likely to use their PlayStation as their primary system in the UK. This stayed consistent from last year’s survey, though the PS4 took the lead as opposed to the — at the time — still kind of hard-to-get PS5.

Conducted by Ampere Games, the survey exclusively showed data from the UK with ages ranging from 13 to 64. The exact participant pool number is unknown, but the survey maker often conducts these sorts of surveys with 50K or more respondents.

The standard PS5 marks at a staggering 71% while second place is taken by the PS4 at 54%. There is a large divide between the Xbox Series X and the comparable, standard PS5 with the Series X only making up 48%.

While the PS5 being marked highly is more of a sign of it being a new console, what can’t be directly answered is the reason behind the gap between the primary systems. It’s largely possible that more people have an affinity toward the PlayStation line of consoles as more exclusives roll in while Xbox continues to struggle at making truly memorable exclusive experiences. It even briefly outsold the Switch over in Japan back in November.

PS5 Is The Clear Favorite According To New UK Survey

A recent survey conducted by Experience12 (via MCV/Develop), a UK-based marketing agency, paints the favorite next-gen console as the PS5. Among the three thousand surveyed, around 84 percent cited the PS5 as their most anticipated next-gen console with 37 percent many planning on getting it on launch day.

It’s important to note this data isn’t taking into consideration the recent Xbox Games Showcase as the survey was conducted from June 24 through July 2. This same survey noted the current favorite console remains the PS4 with a 59 percent favoritism. This percentage is quite significant with its closest competitor – Xbox – standing at around 16 percent.

We should bear in mind, this isn’t a definitive “shove it Xbox” win. It’s only one survey skewing drastically in PS5’s favor.

Sony’s Open To Bringing Remote Play To Switch

Remote Play

Sony may be working with competitors in the future as Remote Play on other consoles was a question in a recent survey, which can be seen here on Reddit. One of the questions asked whether fans would be interested in streaming their games to another console such as the Switch. They also inquired whether anyone would be interested in playing PS1 or PS2 games through Remote Play.

The same survey also proposed the idea of an “on-the-go” DualShock controller. Customization options was also one of the questions, allowing for different sizes and positioning. Naturally, it’s up to Sony which features they’ll include to the PS5, because clearly that’s what this survey is all about.

Arguably, the oddest of feature is the survey’s question on offline capabilities. Remote Play requires an internet connection to work, a connection that, at minimum, should be 15mps. The question doesn’t go into any detail on how they plan on bypassing the requirement.

This survey looks like one of a few possibilities that shows Sony expanding outside of their own platform, with a couple exclusive games on their way to PC in the near future. It should be interesting to see how it all pans out.
