Capcom Has An Entirely New Plan For Street Fighter V DLC

Why is Capcom going a completely different route this time around?

Because they don't want to do what they did before, and many gamers will probably agree.

During an Evo 2015 panel (as summarized by GameSpot ), the company said they're taking an entirely different tact with new content released after SFV's arrival. This time, as opposed to releasing a bunch of new versions of the same game, they plan to introduce new characters individually. This means gamers will "always have something to look forward to," and we can "pick and choose" the characters we want.

They also make it plain that we won't have to pay extra for anything. All the balance and system updates will be free, while DLC characters can actually be purchased via the game's new currency system. There's Fight Money, earned by playing the game, and Zenny, which you can buy with real-world money. If you don't want to go the latter route, you can simply keep playing to earn enough Fight Money to grab the new DLC characters.

Capcom hopes this will offer "more long-term engagement" among fighting fans, and perhaps it will. As for the core roster, that will consist of 16 characters at launch. If you want to test things out, a beta is coming to PlayStation 4 and PC on July 28 and the game has a release window of spring 2016.

So, what do you think of Capcom's idea?

Capcom: “We’ve Paid Attention” To How We Handled SFIV

Capcom won't make the same mistake again.

During a recent Eventhubs interview with Capcom's Matt Dahlgren, we learn we'll only need one disc for Street Fighter V . As Dahlgren explains:

"We have paid attention to the way that we've managed things with Street Fighter IV, and we will be mixing things up this time around. This is the only disc you're ever going to need to own to get all of the content in the game, but we'll be revealing details of how our post-launch content happens at a later date, but it will be good news."

It's likely that Capcom will offer extra content, such as new characters and costumes, as premium DLC. But at least players won't have to purchase another disc to get that content. Dahlgren was asked about the original roster size for SFV and while he wouldn't give us a number, he did say the roster will grow over time:

"We're not revealing the total roster count just yet. What we can say is that we're putting a strong focus on making sure that every character put into the game is very unique and has their own individuality. We want to start off with a core roster which will be inviting to new players. When you start off with a gigantic roster right off the bat, it can be pretty daunting for new players to figure out where to start."

Yeah, we don't need another Street Fighter IV fiasco. Let's just hope SFV is worth all the hype because it's a PlayStation 4 exclusive (even if it's also coming to PC), and Sony could use a top-tier exclusive. Look for it in March 2016.
