Street Fighter V Will “Encompass All That SF Has Become”

Considering the straightforward nature of fighting games, it's a challenge to keep reinventing yourself and wowing the crowd.

But veteran Street Fighter designer Yoshinori Ono believes he's going to produce something special with the upcoming Street Fighter V .

In speaking to Edge magazine (as cited by GamesRadar ), Ono says the latest entry "encompasses all that Street Fighter has become" and will give gamers "something that nobody is expecting:"

"We've been working on Street Fighter IV for the past seven years now. There's been a lot of rebalancing and so on, but the game is still going strong, even today. All this means that, with Street Fighter V, we have a fantastic opportunity to create something with a larger scope, a game that encompasses all that Street Fighter has become in the last few years, but which also expands on that to become something it has never been before as well.

So now we want to create something that nobody is expecting."

Ono added that SFIV "was about reviving a passion" and that he wishes to build off that success. Also, while there's no doubt that SFV will indeed cater to die-hard franchise followers, Ono hopes the game will entice new players. That's going to be key, of course; if you want future success, you require new customers.

Street Fighter V should be set to go in about a year; it currently has a Spring 2016 release window. Capcom is also planning a large and comprehensive beta.

Capcom Producer: Street Fighter V “Needs A Lot Of Work”

If you're not blown away by the graphics you've seen in Street Fighter V , have patience.

The game is still early on in the development stage, as Capcom producer Yoshinori Ono told Japanese publication Famitsu (translated by Siliconera ).

Ono says the game "still needs a lot of work" and as such, the graphics are only going to get better over time. He wants gamers to think of SFV as a project in which "development has only just begun," so don't think anything you see is even remotely final. We recently got a look at some gameplay during last weekend's Capcom Cup tournament , when Ryu and Chun Li faced off. It showed flashes of greatness but obviously, the visual presentation isn't quite done.

Ono added that while the new installment will feature familiar moves, they'll also add new skills as well. So long as Ryu has his fireball and uppercut, I'm good.

Sony: PlayStation Is The “Natural Home” Of Street Fighter

As you know by now, the upcoming Street Fighter V will only be available on PlayStation 4 and PC.

Now, PlayStation UK boss Fergal Gara has commented on this fresh exclusive status (as in, no Xbox or Nintendo platforms supported).

As he told IGN , he wasn't involved in forging this deal with Capcom, but he does believe PlayStation is the "natural home" for the Street Fighter series:

"I wasn't involved, so how it came about I can't comment on, but I think it's another fantastic example of how our heritage provides some fantastic opportunities not just to reminisce but to look forward as well.

Obviously it's a classic from earlier PlayStation days, but now it's being reintroduced for the PS4 era. It was a huge hit on PlayStation, so I guess you could say Street Fighter's natural home is on PlayStation. Now, I'm delighted that's going to happen again in this cycle."

We don't have a launch date yet for SFV but it has already sparked quite the controversy. Some believe it really shouldn't have missed other platforms, while others think it isn't the best third-party exclusive Sony could've secured. Eh, you can't satisfy anyone these days.

How Big Of A Deal Is Street Fighter V’s PS4 Exclusivity, Really?

Yes, we know: Street Fighter V is only coming to PlayStation 4 and PC.

This means Microsoft and Nintendo fans are out of luck, at least at first. Chances are, SFV will release as a "Game of the Year Edition" or some complete, definitive edition on the other consoles at some point. It's basically inevitable.

Even so, I suppose it's a boon for the PlayStation brand. I'm just wondering how big of a boon…I mean, yeah, it's Street Fighter . I understand that it's a legendary franchise; I still remember playing the epic SFII on the Super Nintendo way back when. I also realize that the fighting genre enjoyed a huge resurgence in the previous generation and this proved fighters are here to stay. For a while there, waning interest in the category prompted plenty of naysayers and doom-and-gloomers.

At the same time, I have to wonder at the significance of the news. It's not quite the same as when the Tomb Raider sequel was announced as an Xbox One exclusive, is it? And it's not the same as when Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid went multiplatform. We probably won't be talking about staggering sales for Street Fighter V (in relation to top-tier AAA productions like Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed ) and by then, more PS4 exclusives will be available. I'm just not sure if this is the world-ending sort of news Sony wanted to release. Seems underwhelming to me.

I don't know, though. Maybe fighting fanatics feel differently.

Street Fighter V Teased, Only Confirmed For PS4 And PC

False start by Capcom.

Earlier today, a teaser trailer for the upcoming Street Fighter V made the rounds after landing on YouTube. But not long after, the publisher set the video to private.

You can find some captured stills at NeoGAF and it does appear as if the new installment isn't coming to Xbox platforms. The game is set for PlayStation 4 and PC and supposedly, we'll learn more tonight at the PlayStation Experience. If it is only headed to PS4 and PC, that's pretty important for Sony, especially considering the franchise's legendary status in the industry.

The last few iterations have been pretty great, too. Who's up for another round of Street Fighter ?!
