Battlefront Beta Yields Giant Numbers

You know that 9 million people participated in the wide open Star Wars: Battlefront beta.

But Electronic Arts has shared some extra super big numbers via infographic (see it here ).

The largest beta test in EA history has generated a slew of ridiculous numbers. for instance, players logged an absurd 1.6 billion minutes of testing, enough time to watch the original "Star Wars" trilogy 4.2 million times. Two-thirds of those 9 million participants (6 million) hit the max level of 5 and in terms of specific gameplay numbers: 783,392 Walkers were destroyed, and players chose to spawn as Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader an almost equal number of times; 5,938,148 for Vader and 5,904,806 for Luke.

Star Wars: Battlefront is cleared to release on November 17 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Developer DICE recently revealed more playable characters and modes , and after the beta concluded, they admitted the Assault Walker mode was unbalanced . They'll still be working on the multiplayer experience right up until launch and beyond, you can bet on that.

After Playing The Battlefront Beta, Have You Changed Your Mind?

Over 9 million people participated in the Star Wars: Battlefront beta. Were you one of them?

And if you were involved, did your experience change your mind? If you were planning on a purchase, are you now rethinking the idea? Or, if you really had little intention of buying the game, are you now convinced you want it?

I'm just wondering what sort of effect this beta test had on the gaming community. There are times when a beta is either so good or so bad that I think publishers can lose or gain lots of customers. Now, I know "Star Wars" fans are probably already on the bandwagon and aren't about to pass this one up, regardless of what they saw in the beta. Besides, I think most people understand that it was indeed a test and not the final product. Not only will the final game be tighter and more reliable but it will also have a lot more content .

But without its own in-game chat system and the very unbalanced Assault Walker mode , I wonder if some gamers are currently on the Battlefront fence. Some sources are complaining about the ease and accessibility, as the title is obviously very mainstream. This might turn off a few consumers, I suppose. It'll also be interesting to see if the Call of Duty: Black Ops III beta had an impact on that AAA production, and ultimately, how it stacks up against Battlefront .

What say you?

DICE: Yes, Battlefront’s Assault Walker Mode Is Unbalanced

Well, that's the purpose of a beta.

The Star Wars: Battlefront beta has just concluded and developer DICE is currently sifting through the mounds of feedback they received over the weekend and into Monday.

Players continue to offer feedback and criticism online as well, and DICE is listening. For instance, many are claiming the much-lauded 40-player Assault Walker Mode is unfairly balanced, as it's skewed toward the Imperial side. One fan wrote on Twitter that he'd never won a Walker Assault match while playing on the Rebel side and then asked, "Does this mean I suck?" DICE community manager Matthew Everett promptly responded :

"Nope! It's a balancing issue within the beta."

Then, lead multiplayer designer Dennis Brännvall added the following:

"Yeah, it's too tough. We'll make changes based on the feedback and data. Asymmetric modes are tricky and risky but potentially awesome, that's why we want beta test help."

See? One major balancing problem should be fixed by the time the anticipated multiplayer shooter comes out on November 17 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. You can bet that a lot more will be tweaked by DICE between now and then, too.

Playable Battlefront Characters Include Han Solo, Princess Leia?

"Star Wars" fanatics ought to be excited.

Previously, Electronic Arts confirmed the likes of Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader and Boba Fett as playable characters in the upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront . But the list of special fighters doesn't end there, it seems.

Now that the beta is rolling out on PC, some people are doing some digging. And one Reddit user looked into the game's program files and found references to Han Solo, Princess Leia and the Emperor. These were in the "characters.cb" folder along with the above-mentioned heroes. It would be very interesting to use the Emperor in battle, don't you think?

You can unlock special heroes and villains via power-ups found on the maps. Obviously, these characters have super abilities that make them very tough to take out. Star Wars: Battlefront launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on November 17.

No Offline Option For Battlefront Beta

Be forewarned: You're going to need an Internet connection if you want to participate in the upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront beta.

While the full game will let you play offline, Community Manager Mat Everett confirmed on Reddit that the beta will only offer online play:

"Offline gameplay will not be available within the beta. For the beta, an Internet connection is required to play Missions."

Well, in order to download the beta in the first place, you needed a connection, right? No big deal. The Battlefront beta will be open to everyone who owns a PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or PC (no pre-ordering or anything required), and will give us a chance to sample a Survival Mission and 40-player Walker Assault and Drop Zone modes. The beta test kicks off on October 8 and will continue through October 12.

Of course, while you can play the final version offline, there is no single-player narrative ; the game is obviously designed with multiplayer in mind. For more, including file size and level cap info, click here .

EA Reveals Battlefront Beta File Size, Level Cap, More

Now that we have the exact dates for the Star Wars: Battlefront beta, EA has offered more details.

As the publisher announced at the game's official website , fans can now check the beta's file size, level cap, and more information about the available modes and maps.

First up is the file size, which will be about 7GB on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One; the PC version will require 11GB. For the record, pre-loading will only be supported on PC. As for level cap, we now know we can go as far as Level 5; once you've hit that level, you won't go any higher and don't forget that your progress won't carry over to the final version. EA hasn't announced a level cap for the full game.

Furthermore, developer DICE says they need this time to "test aspects of the game's online infrastructure during gameplay," which is standard. This is a beta, after all. Remember, it's available to all (you don't have to pre-order to get into the test) so if you want to test it out, go for it. The beta will run October 8-12.
