New Life Is Strange Game To Be Announced During Square Enix Presents

Life is Strange

The next entry to the Life is Strange franchise is slated to get a world premiere during Square Enix’s upcoming event, Square Enix Presents. The announcement tweet doesn’t quite go into detail about who will be developing the game, though, it’s safe to say that it’s probably not Dontnod Entertainment.

This piece of Life is Strange news will be a part of a 40-minute-or-so presentation that’ll be livestreamed on both YouTube and Twitch by Square Enix themselves. Alongside the new entry, they’re also going to touch on Marvel’s Avengers, the 25th anniversary of Tomb Raider, the Just Cause mobile game, and more.

The event is set to go live on March 18 at 10 AM PDT/5 PM GMT.

Marvel’s Avengers Dev Addresses Dwindling Playerbase

Marvel's Avengers

A bit over a month has passed since Square Enix launched Crystal Dynamics‘ Marvel’s Avengers and it’s already suffering from a fanbase starved of new content. The developer’s studio head, Scot Amos, however, is confident that new content will bring back its wayward playerbase as he promises new content is releasing in the coming weeks. When contacted by Kotaku, the studio sent a lengthy letter, which detailed some of the content it’s planning on releasing.

The studio aims to launch a new War Zone mode, a new Outpost, which will tie into brand-new story missions, and AIM’s Cloning Lab. The letter also acknowledged new heroes coming to the game including Kate Bishop, the protege of Hawkeye.

Crystal Dynamics is also no stranger to the issues in its game and will address them accordingly, including fixing bugs, loot distribution issues, and “quality of life” features.

Project Athia: A Mysterious Game for the PS5

Project Athia

While there were quite a few showstoppers at Sony’s The Future of Gaming event, there were also a few games that were much more mysterious. Project Athia is one of the games that falls heavily into the category of teaser. The short trailer only gave a little bit of cinematic story flavor with some gameplay. Even the name Project Athia is just a working title and will likely change later.

This PS5 game is being developed by Luminous Productions under the Square Enix umbrella. Luminous Productions was founded couple years ago and is using the Luminous Engine. Which is an internal engine Square has been using for quite some time in many other games. Thisw will be the first game by the studio.

It’s still early in development so there’s not much else known about Project Athia. No release date or anything as of yet. So don’t hold your breath on seeing this in the wild anytime soon. But, they have teased the game and promise to take advantage of the PS5 technology.

Project Athia is the culmination of our philosophy here at Luminous Productions to create completely new and fresh gaming experiences that fuse together the latest technologies with art. With PS5, our vision truly comes to life, and with Project Athia players can look forward to being transported to a vast and detailed world filled with beauty and dismay.

Keep an eye out for more news for Project Athia.

That Final Fantasy VII Port Trailer Apparently Fooled A Sony Head

Final Fantasy VII

In 2014, Square Enix got the world talking. No, it wasn’t because they revealed the long-speculated Final Fantasy VII Remake. Instead, out of left-field, they revealed it was coming to PS4… as a port from the PC. Disheartened by this, fans were confused, was Square Enix even listening? Why would people want a port of the PC version to come to the PS4? Well, it turns out, not everyone was even in the joke.

While speaking with Push Square, Sony’s former VP of third-party relations, Adam Boyes, expressed how he had no idea about the project. The fact he didn’t know about it is bizarre, considering he aided in bringing the iconic entry to the PS4 as a remake. He then went about comparing the reveal to Charlie Brown’s football scene. Everyone thought it was a remake only to find it was the PC version ported to the PS4.

“I did not know about the remake project at the time. The number one rule in going on stage at E3 is to never read the comments and, of course, I am a horrible example of that because I read all the comments. I think the biggest feeling everyone had was it felt like, you know, Lucy putting the football out for Charlie Brown and pulling it away. Because everyone thought it was going to be one thing and then it was something completely different.”

The actual reveal for what we have now came six months later during E3 2015. Needless to say, fans were ecstatic when all those long-running rumors rang true. But, it’s funny to think even Sony employees fell for the Final Fantasy VII PS4 port gag. Of course, it wasn’t a complete joke, fans – maybe even new ones – still have the chance to get themselves a copy with all its 90s charm.
